LOL - I don't want him to go to Birdland. My own appreciation of that performing place is that it is where stage actors who are "resting" ( aka no work available on Broadway) from the stage perform. Also, someone called them and their first reaction was that they never heard of such plans. Unless he is doing it as a favor for a friend -- like he guested at Joe's Pub for Russell and at another place for friend Richard Marx. It is a jazz club, isn't it?
He might as well do his own one-man show elsewhere ( his dance-oriented show, if he is prepared to do it)- in a Broadway house!
We'll see - maybe he will surprise us again with another project!

If Hugh really appears at Birdland, I have to think it would be more than your normal type of show there, lol.

I have never been there, but my understanding is that it is just a really small jazz club. Hugh is not primarily a singer, whose repertoire fits that kind of atmosphere. He is more of a musical theatre performer, which features a variety of talent. www.birdlandjazz.com/

Sure, looked all that up when the blurb came out. Again, what they've done there in the past is no predictor of what Hugh would do there. Certainly it wouldn't be some long engagement, but it does sound like something different which he might enjoy trying. He seems to love to try new and different things. As I recall, this mention came out shortly after he'd made a statement which seemed to retreat from the new one-man show coming together quickly. At any rate, we have no idea if this was valid, or if anything might change with his recent vocal issue. He doesn't seem too concerned about going back to Istanbul fairly soon.
But of course, tickets would be ... a challenge to get.

That supposed Birdland engagement is due to take place in September, per gossip columnist Cindy Adams. But isn't that the time when he starts filming GREATEST SHOWMAN? Not only will he be involved in some form of rehearsals ( singing and dancing) but as he is also a producer ( and he is the type who works hard at it), he will likely be very busy with preproduction work. Especially so that his director, Michael Gracey, is a first-time film director.
I wonder if he is also going to be a producer for WOLVERINE 3 which starts filming early in 2016 ( according to James Mangold) - which means that he segues directly from GREATEST SHOWMAN to pre-production and then actual filming of the Wolverine solo.
Presumably, he will be free to do a media junket for EDDIE THE EAGLE (which opens on April 29, 2016)!
What would be interesting is what major project will he be doing for the rest of 2016, until it is time to do promotion for GREATEST SHOWMAN ( Dec 25, 2016 release date)?

While discussing XMEN APOCALYPSE, Simon Kinberg was asked about Hugh's cryptic farewell-to-Wolverine message --
Hmmm....
*Has Hugh not said YES to the supposed cameo proposal? Did Hugh want to play a more significant role in APOCALYPSE but a role was not written for him in the script ( written by Kinberg)?
*I thought the timing of Hugh's instagram message was hinting at something. Even Mangold was not aware that the message was coming. It just came out of the blue -- I thought it would have been expected if he had been doing a media tour for an XMEN movie and he would have confirmed that he is now thinking of retiring the claws. Or maybe during the set visits for WOLVERINE 3, he would have shared the news that he has decided on retiring from the role? Why send out the message at the most unexpected time and he is not even filming any XMEN movie?
*Why the "No Comment" remark from Kinberg -- presumably Hugh's decision was made together with FOX ...and producers/key creative teams on XMEN projects would know about his plans other than just from the unexpected announcement.
I am probably trying to read too much into this - but it does sound intriguing!

Here's the full interview with Kinberg. The question and evasive responses about Wolverine are right at the end. He says more than "No comment". youtu.be/iku5qDKZj1Q

Thanks for the link to the actual interview. The report from Yahoo was misleading. Kinberg gave the No Comment remark to the question of what happens to Wolverine after Mystique rescues him in DOFP, not to the issue of Hugh making that One-last-time instagram message. But I think there is some evasion on the issue of Hugh's departure from the role - I hope it's Hugh who will eventually say something more about his rather abrupt departure. uk.yahoo.com/movies/x-men-apocalypse-will-alter-the-course-of-116809249329.htmlHey, did you watch the Bahrain race, Sue ? I am a Kimi fan ( although my favorite is Michael Schumacher)and it was great to see him back racing like the Flying Finn he used to be . He does have a droll sense of humor -- talking about "running out of laps" and losing the chance to actually catch Hamilton! Forza! Back to Wolverine -- I hope he does at least a cameo for Apocalypse. Jo

Yes, I did catch the race, nice driving by Kimi, and Ferrari is definitely doing better than expected. It's sort of strange to find them in the somewhat lovable underdog role, lol, compared to the nasty driver feud at Mercedes. Here is somebody's theory about Wolverine's part in Apocalypse. I can't imagine this scenario, when there is a solo movie to follow. nerdreactor.com/2015/04/19/will-hugh-jackmans-wolverine-die-in-x-men-apocalypse/

I came across that one, too. I agree with you that this is an unlikely scenario --APOCALYPSE is all about how APOCALYPSE became a force to be reckoned with in the mutant world. In comic book lore, he actually lures Wolverine into becoming a villain, as the the Horseman Death. I don't see why they should veer away from that if they want to include Wolverine in the movie. If as the article suggests that Wolverine be given a " fitting farewell" in this movie, that also negates the value of WOLVERINE 3. Re Hugh's own farewell to the role -- *Maybe it is because he does not see any more key Wolverine stories to tell, in another solo? Maybe a team movie would not be too appealing anymore? *What fine actor would want to step into a role that has been declared as too iconic ( because of the originator's stamp on the role) -- how else can he put his own stamp on the interpretation if Wolverine will no longer have another solo movie. Besides, even in a team movie, fans would rather see one that is not always Wolverine-centric. Maybe if Wolverine gets into any of the team movies ( or even other solos but with other key XMEN character), it will be basically a featured role? So, the casting need not be one that requires an even stronger stamp on the character? *The producer who helped bring Wolverine to the screen in the persona of Hugh Jackman was Lauren Shuler Donner. How active will she continue to be, as news says she has been battling cancer? Simon Kinberg wrote THE LAST STAND - so he has a reputation of trying to inundate the XMEN movies with all the mutants that his Cerebro-mind can find - LOL! I am not too excited about him. LOL - with the casting of very young actors in APOCALYPSE, it is beginning to look like XMEN:KINDERGARTEN CLASS

There continues to be reports which say the NO COMMENT remark actually refers to the question on Hugh's cryptic "One-last-time" message. I rewatched the IGN clip and, on second pass, it does sound like that Kinberg could actually be referring to the departure of Hugh from the role. If he were referring to the confusing additional question about what happens to Wolverine after his rescue by Mystique, Kinberg could have replied enigmatically with " You'll have to find out about that in Apocalypse".
I still think that there is more than meets the eye about the Instagram message.

It does indeed sound like more than a cameo--at least as the plot is described here. We'll see if he's bound for Montreal anytime soon.

But JoBlo is more optimistic... hopeful, maybe www.joblo.com/movie-news/casting-call-states-that-wolverine-and-gambit-will-be-in-x-men-apocalypse-204I think it is the timing of the casting call ( presumably released by the Casting Director's Office, after filming is presumably all set to start in Montreal) which is what gives this bit of info some credibility. JoBlo has been a filmsite for the genre for some time now (since AICN was a top filmsite...but has now faded in its popularity) and I have some respect for its judgment and assessment...or could that be the eternal-hopeful that I am Jo

Hey, a confirmation. Great find, Jo. But I take exception to Gus's math. He of all people should know Hugh's 46 going on 47. Both ages are closer to 45 than 50.

I have just listened to the podcast from the link.
www.triplem.com.au/sydney/shows/grill-team/blog/2015/5/supergrass-on-acdc-support-act-reunion-hugh-jackman-aussie-gold-medalist-more/
Gus mentions that Hugh has had to train twice a day and eat more protein/veggies every three hours for a protracted period to get into the proper Wolverine shape ( which we saw in The Wolverine).
It was even harder when the film project had to be postponed a few times fairly close to filming. I think Hugh mentioned in an interview that there were several postponements before The Wolverine got underway.
-The first one was after Real Steel ( I think that explained why he looked quite buff for that particular movie. Wasn't that because Darren Aronofsky was doing his Oscar campaign for Black Swan...and then he left the director's chair and they had to look for another helmer ( James Mangold)
-The second postponement was sometime in late summer/early fall in 2011. That gave Hugh time to bring his one-man show to Broadway.
-Due to the delays, Hugh was able to commit to LES MISERABLES, which he filmed as a priority over The Wolverine. I remember how he started bulking up for Wolverine after he completed his "convict" scenes from Les Mis. I remember reading that he said he put on about 30 lbs in the process -- although it didn't affect his portrayal because he was wearing costume for M le Maire! He took a fairly short break after the Les Mis filming, before moving on to the filming of Wolverine.
Also, I remember that when he was filming AUSTRALIA, that he was training on his free time to do the Origins movie which would follow right after. Baz Luhrmann ( and maybe Catherine Martin, too) had complained to Hugh that Hugh was bulking up so fast that he was starting to show a different look as The Drover as filming was going on. Literally bursting at the seams
Hugh has had to do a lot for his Wolverine role! FOX should give him a medal for all that he has done to make the role iconic!

That unwitting (or is it?) scoop from Gus has spawned a lot of speculations and comments on the Superherohype board.
This one presents a very interesting theory --

LOL - we'll go for any clue that he might be part of APOCALYPSE No special design by Montblanc, Hugh Did the dufflebag maker know that the bag is intended for Hugh's use in Montreal ( presumably while he is supposedly joining Apocalypse)...or did he just read the speculations about Hugh being in the movie? Or is this an actual prop for the movie filming in Montreal? In the meantime, Hugh's facial hair and head hair are still not showing any indications of him morphing into Wolverine pretty soon. Jo

But Hugh is now in Australia ( with 13 pieces of luggage )...when will it happen, if it ever does? Jo

So much anticipation about the forthcoming ComicCon panel of FOX on July 11. comicbook.com/2015/07/02/foxs-comic-con-2015-panel-the-deadpool-x-men-and-fantastic-four-/Hugh's appearance or an announcement of his involvement in the film will likely generate the loudest roar for the day in the great HALL H venue ( which seats something like 6000 or so, if I am not mistaken)! He will be at HALL H at the Warner Bros panel at around 10:30 or so earlier in the morning. Will he turn out a cameo appearance at HALL H, too, when Fox presents its stuff at around 5:45 pm? Jo
