Of course, that article could be constructed completely out of that proverbial whole cloth. I haven't read that Hugh has signed on officially for anything. We'll have to wait and see.

I guess we'll know soon enough if Hugh is part of the cast or not, although most film sites assume that Wolverine will be part of the storyline.

Den of Geek has summarized all the relevant developments ( and speculations) about XMEN : APOCALYPSE -- www.denofgeek.com/movies/x-men/32827/everything-we-know-about-x-men-apocalypseHugh is said to be attached to the movie although no casting has been confirmed officially. In the Patrick Healy interview, he seemed to have expressed a desire for a smaller role in the movie. But this seems certain --

No official word yet on whether Wolverine/Hugh Jackman will be joining the cast of this next XMEN movie. Here's some interesting news on the casting of the young Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm -- www.latino-review.com/news/x-men-apocalypse-guess-who-is-testing-for-cyclops-jean-grey-stormTaron is the same actor who is supposed to play EDGAR THE EAGLE, a film project supposedly targeting a spring filming date, where Hugh Jackman has been tapped to play the role of the ski jumper's mentor ( See Film Role Rumors thread)! If both actors end up in APOCALYPSE, will this push back the Matthew Vaughn-produced biopic of the British Olympic skier ? Jo

There's still no official word on whether Wolverine will join the Apocalypse film project. Some sites have begun to speculate if it will happen at all. But EMPIRE, a very reliable filmsite and who probably has access to the inner circles ( remember that massive coverage of DAYS OF FUTUE PAST, featuring 25 covers of characters from movie including Bryan Singer?) continues to assert that there will appearances by Wolverine and the older Magneto. www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=43463

In this Access Hollywood interview, Hugh is inevitably asked how Wolverine would like to look in the 80's ( they were discussing mullets and then the interviewer suggested that Wolverine, in the 80s', might look good with a mullet). Wolverine in the 80's would of course be a timeline which coincides with the rise of Apocalypse. Hugh teases about it -- He says that is a secret that not even the Head of the NSA ( National Security Agency?) knows. " You think I know ?" ( eyes twinkling). "You're right - I know" ( smile gets even more seductive). Make of that what you can www.accesshollywood.com/hugh-jackman-on-playing-chappie-villain_video_2655437Jo

I almost didn't recognize Hoult in the MAD MAX trailer preceding the showing of CHAPPIE that I attended. Pretty good makeup. Not that I'm anxious for Hugh to have a big role in APOCALYPSE--I'm not--but I do hope he does at least a cameo, further cementing his place in the Guinness Book (I'm assuming this is included) for having played the same comic book superhero more times than anyone else.

It looks like it will only be a cameo role for Hugh in APOCALYPSE -- www.movieweb.com/x-men-apocalypse-cast-mutant-cameos-production-startBah! If this movie is being buzzed as the biggest XMEN movie to-date and their biggest star of the franchise will not be really a part of it ( what, they want to discard him from any team movie ) -- then see you at the Blu-Ray! Not going to see a bunch of teeny-bopper mutants take over. Nor the three supposed leads ( who are not that keen to return to the franchise )! Let them lead the backbreaking media junkets! Hrmmph! Jo

So will APOCALYPSE explain what happened to Wolverine after Mystique took him away at the end of DAYS OF FUTURE PAST? Or will W0LVERINE 3?

LOL, tell us what you REALLY think of this development, jo. I'm mostly interested, if this is true, in learning what he'll be doing this summer instead of Apocalypse.

I think I have said enough - LOL!
I don't like the idea that he seems to be being phased out of the franchise ( of which he has been frontman for the last 15 years) just like that! I want them to let Hugh leave the franchise on his own terms. True, there will be a 3rd solo but with that being relased in early March 2017, it seems to me that they no longer consider it as a true summer season franchise movie. I hope they did not greenlight it just to placate Hugh! I have the same feeling that the reason for the sudden greenlight of GREATEST SHOWMAN is that it is a second consolation prize. That project was so long in development h*ll nobody thought it would still get the greenlight. Now, they even gave it the Christmas Day schedule. And to think this all happened after he had already backtracked on leaving the Wolverine role initially. I would have liked for him to leave the franchise in a team movie, and with a substantial role.
PS: I never saw FIRST CLASS in a cinema. I first saw it only on cable TV. I finally relented and bought a BluRay just to complete my XMEN collection.
Unless they reconsider the role for Hugh -- then it will be BluRay for me once again!

I wonder if Hugh had an early inkling - and that is the reason why he accepted the EDDIE THE EAGLE project, in which he is not even the title role?
It has been mentioned that he might return to Istanbul in two months time - so maybe towards end May or early June? Although he can take his time scheduling this? And maybe even follow it with another short engagement in another city that might give him an offer? Like London, perhaps?
As for the summer -- I bet WARNER BROS will ask him to do most of the media junket and premieres for PAN ( due for release in the third week of July).
August - some personal time! And more prep for GREATEST SHOWMAN which starts filming in September.

Well, if Days of Future Past proves to be Hugh's swan song as leader of the X-Men team franchise, I'll take it. What a great film.
I've been a bit skeptical lately about whether comic movies will continue to do well, and Apocalypse in particular has had me wondering. Heroes teaming up to fight against some "big bad villain" can only take you so far, there has to be something interesting and different. How will Apocalypse differ from Age Of Ultron in that regard? I'm not sure.
Regardless of how this came about - and we don't know that he was "discarded" - I will look on the optimistic side. I think this sets up the potential for Wolverine 3 to be a decisive conclusion to his tale. And I think it'll make the anticipation for that film much greater.
And this is all still a rumor at this point, right? Although it does seem to have been building up to this point.

Days of Future Past was not really a key Wolverine movie -- XMEN fans consider it as a Prof Xavier movie ( McAvoy and Stewart), as the story focused on the character development for the young Prof Xavier. Wolverine was simply used as a catalyst in the storyline ( and actually was borrowed from Kitty Pride's role in the comic books). Hugh of course got top billing because he has been the frontman and top box office draw for the franchise.
To be honest - I much preferred the first and second XMEN movies as the best of the team movies. And what a cast - not only were they great actors but they had the gravitas and personas to carry the film. Patrick Stewart, Ian Mckellen, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, Alan Cumming, Kelsey Grammer, Brian Cox, and I join many who prefer Rebecca Romijn as the fabulous Mystique!
I wouldn't have minded if Hugh were cast as one of the Horsemen in APOCALYPSE, not the real lead, but at least seeing Wolverine in a villainous role ( but hopefully reconverted to his original persona at the end) would have been fascinating. And his being the Horseman DEATH draws from the comic book origin.
But another cameo - I take that to mean that they just want to use his name to draw in his fanbase smiley-rolleyes010
Comic book movies ( aka superhero films), fairy tales, animation for kids or kid-once, young adult fare -- they continue to be the staple of blockbusters these days. Those are the kind of movies that studios will generally support ( finance and distribute). Plus I am no longer sure that being identified with an auteur will work everytime. Check out the series of articles I have posted under Understanding the Film Business ( Off-Topic). Movies that are dramatic in content are relegated more to the background ( and for Oscar glory smiley-rolleyes010). Even mindless comedies are hit and miss now. I don't know how to classify American Sniper ( cultural or political preference statement?). As for movie musicals -- another hit and miss situation.
He has used the Wolverine role box office draw to leverage other roles ( maybe even his draw on Broadway?) - which is the main reason why I am not that keen for him to leave the franchise ( so long as he wants to continue playing Wolverine). I even think that Universal was keen to cast him as Valjean not only because of his musical and dramatic chops but because of his wide fanbase ( that draws from his being a household name due to his Wolveirne fame).
We'll see how FOX will now look after him...and how his appeal extends to other studios and producers!

Well, there are cameos and there are cameos. First Class and Night at the Museum were kept secret up until they were finally screened. I think they probably know the futility of trying to do that here. And I can't imagine it'll just be a one-line cameo or why would this come out? Certainly, they'll want to set up Gambit / Channing Tatum for his upcoming film. I think Wolverine has been verging on overexposure, so a small "break" from the series, as they desperately try to set it up with a new cast, seems okay to me.
Lost in this is Halle Berry is also expected to appear. That's a surprising development. Maybe we'll see that screen kiss after all, lol.
I'm quite excited by Eddie the Eagle. And Greatest Showman. And Wolverine 3. I hope there is another movie hiding in there somewhere that we don't know about, but if he has a restful (or "restful") summer, that's okay too. Oh, and don't forget the mysterious Birdland mention in September. Wonder what the heck that is.

Ugh. I hate it when posts change after I've read them! Regarding Days of Future Past, he still led the franchise. He was the only name above the title, and he appeared on screen more than any of the others. And it was a great film - both critically acclaimed and a box office smash. Again, if that turns out to be his last star turn as Wolverine in an X-Men film, it's fine by me. And then I hope they clear up some of the loose ends of his story in Wolverine 3 (or maybe in Apocalypse).
