From the live blog for the FOX Comic Con panel --
FOX is showing so many movie teasers and introducing so many movie characters that it seemed like a convention on stage. Hugh did make an appearance, but ( in my guess) is likely there to promote the upcoming movie that is yet to the filmed ( Wolverine 3). There seems to be no indication that he will be part of APOCALYPSE ( maybe at most, in cameo)

www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/comic-con-x-men-apocalypse-808195The appearance of the large cast was heavily rumored. Fox surprised a Hall H crowd with a first-look at X-Men: Apocalypse. The appearance of the large cast – 14 actors took to the stage, ranging from James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult to Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner and Oscar Isaac – was heavily rumored. But it was the footage that had the crowd roaring in approval and delight. It gave the first glimpse of Isaac as the villain, Apocalypse, and ended with McAvoy as the bald-headed Professor X, which is the first time the actor will inhabit that iconic look. The X-Men panel started off on a sentimental note with Hugh Jackman.
A reel showcased the history of the X-Men franchise with a heavy dose of Jackman as Wolverine and also featured rare Jackman audition footage and being offered the job.
"Up until 2 days ago I had no idea that footage existed,” Jackman said before going on what felt very much like a Wolverine farewell tour. He talked of how his new Wolverine movie will be “my last time putting on the claws. This has been the greatest things that has ever happened to me.”
Singer then joined the man whose career he helped shape and explained: “I never gave anyone a job on the spot before. But I got permission.” X-Men: Apocalypse, directed by Bryan Singer, will hit theaters on May 27, 2016. Gambit, starring Channing Tatum, is slated for October 7, 2016. As the large Apocalypse cast came on, Jackman and Singer hugged and Jackman bid the stage adieu. The panel ended on a high note and a surprise on top of a surprise, much to the delight of the crowd. After another showing of the footage, the entire cast returned to the stage with Jackman for a giant photo. Then, from one far side, X-Men co-creator Stan Lee shuffled onto the stage. Moments later, and out of the blue, Channing Tatum, who is joining the X-Men cinematic universe with his solo film Gambit, hopped from backstage and joined in on the fun. The crowd, naturally, went ape and thousands of cameraphones went into overdrive.

The cast of APOCALYPSE was on Conan O'Brien's show last night. They brought out James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender first--so funny! Scroll down: www.tbs.com/shows/index.htmlNancy

Based on general assessment, the surprise general hit was the R-rated Deadpool trailer. Did the person who conceived the FOX presentations had that in mind when Wolverine's farewell artwork was jokingly presented in this art work Great punch line by Hugh Jo

The irony is that the Australian singer-actor will not be an essential part of Bryan Singer's last XMEN movie and that Bryan is not going to direct Hugh Jackman in his farewell Wolverine movie Why did Bryan let it happen that Wolverine is not going to be an essential part of his last XMEN team movie? So, Wolverine ( in the persona of Hugh Jackman) will leave movie audiences as a loner! Or is that the quintessential character of Wolverine emoticon-cartoon-020 Jo

I went back to the Cinemablend Farewell-to-Hugh tribute and read the readers's comments -- www.cinemablend.com/new/Watch-Hugh-Jackman-Heartfelt-Farewell-X-Men-Wolverine-Comic-Con-72538.html#disqus_threadThis is very interesting, because it seems there is an iota of truth in it -- *Hugh did say that he took some 8-9 auditions before he got the role. *In the first reading with Singer, there was no encouragement at all from Singer, if you had seen the YouTube upload. After that, Hugh did the screen test with Anna Paquin as Rogue. *But it was producer Lauren Shuler Donner who actually pushed for Hugh for the role. *And if the lore is true ( Hugh has told the story oftentimes...but in the recent special feature on the Rogue cut of DOFP, it was repeated by Singer himself), Singer could not make up his mind about Hugh (even when they were already shooting XMEN for a few weeks sans a Wolverine replacement for Dougray Scott), until a lowly staff ( from Hugh's account, it was a janitor or someone similar) expressed his full approval of the possible Jackman Wolverine casting to Singer! *Even when they were already filming, didn't Singer tell Hugh that even after some time, he could not feel the right emotions from Hugh? Remember Hugh's story about deciding not to find some issues to quarrel with Deb ( so he can be emotionally motivated when he went to work), which seemed might have been suggested by Singer in jest, but he decided to take the extremely cold showers instead to rouse his angst and badassery mood. *I checked early reports on APOCALYPSE -- in one early interview, Hugh said that when he asked Singer/Kimberg, he was told that there was something for him in the movie. Which dovetails with why he was always coy about being in it - instead of denying outright that he won't be part of it. *Before filming Apocalypse, there were reports that supposedly Matthew Vaughn (who was supposed to helm DOFP first) wanted to recast a younger Wolverine, to play alongside Jackman/Wolverine in the initial script draft for DOFP which he helped write? Given the timing of the leak of that news, what was that all about? *I thought the way Wolverine was almost killed in DOFP was ominous. *Who took the biggest burden ( despite his cancer bout then) of promoting DOFP, especially since Singer's name was blemished with scandal, and went to most of the worldwide premieres and handled much of the media junket? *Now Singer has said that Apocalypse is going to be the real birth of the X-MEN! He is practically ignoring what the original trilogy actors ( such a fantastic cast -- with Oscar winners, Oscar nominees and a potential box office draw that Hugh turned into) did to make the first XMEN movie the considered leader of the birth of the serious superhero/comicbook movies! He may have directed it...but I doubt that without that illustrious cast, that it would have met with such success. Now he is saying the baby actors are going to show us the real birth of the XMen <rant> *Even at ComicCon, they used a tribute to Hugh ( and asked him to do the XMEN retrospective) because the baby XMen are hardly known while Jen Lawrence gave the impression in previous interviews that she was no longer interested in renewing any XMEN contract. Hugh was there because he is the name and the role that connect most to the Hall H audience when it came to the XMEN movies! *Now Singer is trying to pay tribute to Hugh, per his latest instagram/tweet smiley-rolleyes010...And how awkward was it that Hugh was called back to the panel but there was no chair for him? It seemed to highlight that there seemed to be no room for him among the Apocalypse movie team. At least he had the presence of mind to make a joke of it by sitting on Jen Lawrence's lap....And I couldn't make out what Singer was trying to do when he kept calling Hugh after Hugh was set to leave the stage. Guilt perhaps? I am probably reading too much into this -- but what that reader said ( concurred by 4 others) seemed like a good assessment of what had really happened. Sorry for the rant. Jo PS: Posted on the SuperheroHype forum as an observation -- It was very obvious! Jo

Why the formal photo shoot? Is this to celebrate the XMEN family -- but without the other members of the original trilogy cast, it doesn't seem complete. Unless it is a hint that Gambit, Deadpool and Wolverine will do cameos in APOCALYPSE? Jo

Maybe it's to celebrate the Fox family as I see Fantastic Four actors in the shoot. I do like that Hugh is front and center! Why the formal photo shoot? Is this to celebrate the XMEN family -- but without the other members of the original trilogy cast, it doesn't seem complete.
