LOL - I've come to realize that, too, for sometime now On the March 5 Kelly and Michael appearance, he looked like he has just had a haircut. But...given no confirmation, I was just presuming that the skier/tweeter may or may not have been mistaken Jo

From the same Facebook Page - loosely translated from German by BING So, the big German studio (Babelsberg) is a co-producer! It looks like they are now currently filming in Oberstdorf. That's the same place where the tweeter who posted the news about Hugh being in town posted his latest tweet ( about something else) - LOL! Jo

Empire picks up the instagram message from Hugh and gives the filming early buzz. Except they have the wrong name for Hugh's role. In a previous post on this forum, there was an article posted clarifying that the role of Hugh is that of a fictional coach who was once a golden boy in skiing but ended up a burnout...and eventually helps Eddie in his quest. www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=43652At the bottom of the page is a podcast with Matthew Vaughn who is producing the movie. Matthew directed XMEN: First Class ( remember Hugh's famous cameo?)and also Kingsman ( which launched Taron Egerton to worldwide movie audiences). At 23'54", he talks about EDDIE THE EAGLE. He confirms his producer's duties. He also said that filming starts March 9, 2015 ( which is what Hugh posted on his Instagram). He plans to be around regularly on set during the duration of the filming. Part of the reason is because he loves the mountains and he may also be doing some writing ( he does write scripts, as DAYS OF FUTURE PAST was part of his scriptwriting efforts... he also talks about why he ended up not continuing with the project) Re Eddie the Eagle - he is looking forward to the movie which he expects to carry a very cinematic feel. He talks about how difficult it must be to dramatize the thrill of those ski jumps, which can be really dangerous. He says the film will not necessarily focus on Eddie the clown, but more of a story of" Breaking Away meets Slap Shot"). Jo

Quite a few sites have picked up the story precipitated by Hugh's tweet/instagram, but with some erroneous information. One is ComingSoon.net which also picked the wrong information re Hugh's role. www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/417577-first-look-at-hugh-jackman-and-taron-egerton-on-the-set-of-eddie-the-eagleI hope the short note I wrote to them ( Comments section) will correct the misinformation. Maybe the producer's office should correct the misinformation? No offense meant but if it were true that Hugh is playing the role of real-life coach Chuck Berghorn, there might be some headscratching as to what attracted Hugh to the role? Jo

I wonder how Hugh will look in the film, if he dons a skit suit? Here are some real-life photos, from years back, showing him indulging in one of his favorite leisure activities - skiing

It looks like the scale of this film would be both spectacular and intimate No wonder the German Studio BABELSBERG has been invited in as co-producer. BING translation of production details for location shooting --

They used some stock footage there. That was Hugh on set for Reel Steel.

Seeing the ski-jumping arena and the snow-covered mountains and hearing the Ja's and Nein's brings back very sad memories of my favorite racer, German Michael Schumacher. He was seriously injured in a freak skiing accident and is now bed-ridden and unable to speak. I hope Hugh does not do any of the stunts - and leave it to the professionals if he is in scenes calling for him to teach Taron techniques in ski-jumping. But the mountain atmosphere must be very refreshing with all that snow and crisp air. Oberstdorf is part of the Bavarian Alps -- Jo

Too bad most of the articles are in German, so I am overworking my BING translator ( but one can get the gist ) The article focuses mostly on the real Eddie, aka Michael Edwards.

Yes, it happened near ( or at?) Grenoble - a former Olympic Winter Games host- didn't it?
On the Atlas board ( for racing, esp Formula 1), racing fans continue to express their concern.
Luzie - do you live near Bavaria?

I've never been a Schumacher fan but his accident is so sad and tragic - I feel for his family, especially his wife and his children. Btw, his son Mick will make his car racing debut in Formular 4 this season. As father, as son.

Luzie,
Germany is such a beautiful country - I have been to some parts ( most on the Western side, but not much on the eastern part - never been to Dresden, Berlin, the Romantic road, etc). What I recall from Bavaria is being in Munich at the end of September...and of course going up the Neuschwanstein Castle. Is Oberammargau also part of Bavaria - we were also able to go that place.
Oberstdorf must be buzzing now. There are two other places that seem to be included in the location schedule -- Studio Babelsberg is involved in the production. I have been to the Italian Alps - actually to an Olympic winter games host resort named Cortina d'Ampezzo. Would that also be within travelling distance to Oberstdorf?
Yes, it is very sad about Michael. I didn't realize that young Mick is already old enough to do some racing. He was named by Michael after a good friend, motorcycle racer Mick Doohan. Gina must be a young lady now. But his family seemed to be very devoted to giving Michael the best care. Btw, I had seen Michael race thrice ( twice in Monaco and once in Montreal). Ironic that the worst accident while he was racing was a broken leg in the British GP, but it was the freak skiing accident that caused this catastrophic upheaval in their lives.
Thanks.
