Expect the actor Vaughn threw out of a plane in Kingsman to get more of the same in this one. “When you do ski-jumping, you start with15 metres; then at 40 metres, you start getting bruises; 70 metres is break-your-bones stuff; 90 metres you break your neck,” grins Vaughn. “It’s the most cinematic thing I’ve ever seen."

Jackman is pointman for the XMEN franchise while Egerton co-starred in the new Fox hit KINGSMAN. Could this be the only reason why they were interested in the filming of EDDIE THE EAGLE?

I wonder -- could they be among those talking to the producers ( incl Matthew Vaughn, another one linked to Fox) for a distribution deal for EDDIE THE EAGLE?

“Keeping Up With the Joneses” and “Eddie the Eagle” will hit theaters in April 2016


20th Century Fox has picked up the Hugh Jackman-Taron Egerton skiing movie “Eddie the Eagle” and announced it will release the film on April 29, 2016. The inspirational sports movie has that weekend to itself for the moment.

Egerton’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service” director Matthew Vaughn is producing the movie, which is being directed by Dexter Fletcher.

The studio has also announced it will release the Zach Galifianakis-Jon Hamm comedy “Keeping Up With the Joneses” on April Fool’s Day, aka April 1, 2016. The only other film slated to open that day is Will Gluck’s Screen Gems comedy “Catfight.”

“Eddie the Eagle” details the inspiring exploits of Michael Edwards, better known as “Eddie the Eagle,” the most famous ski jumper in British history. The film’s portrayal of Edwards’ never-say-die approach to the sport, celebrates the human spirit and resilience in the face of extraordinary odds and challenges.

Egerton plays Eddie the Eagle, while Jackman plays a ski jumping expert from Lake Placid who helps Eddie train for the Calgary Olympics...

Jackman, Vaughn(First Class, DOFP, Kingsman), Egerton (Kingsman) have been in FOX hits - so this was easy to project as a possible distribution deal with Fox. Interesting that they have much faith in it - April 29 is at the start of the summer blockbuster season!

Lucky for relatively unknown Dexter Fletcher! Very shrewd of Matthew Vaughn to have persuaded Hugh to be part of his project. It was also another shrewd move to have persuaded the big studio Babelsberg to co-produce the movie.

So, a year or so from now?

Then GREATEST SHOWMAN on Christmas Day for the same year!

And...depending on whether Hugh/Wolverine will be part of XMEN:Apocalypse ( release date of May 27, 2016) -- he might be in three movie releases for 2016!

Fox has jumped on Eddie The Eagle, acquiring the biopic about Britain’s lovably inept first Olympic ski jumper. Taron Egerton stars as Michael Edwards, who rose to fame as the very-last-place finisher in two events at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Hugh Jackman will play his coach. Production is under way in Alps.

Edwards became known to the world as Eddie the Eagle as he “soared” to spectacularly bad results in the 70M and 90M ski jumping events. He came into the games as Britain’s record holder in the sport but left as a scene-stealing poster boy for never-say-die underdogs everywhere. Fox has set an April 29, 2016, release for the film directed by Dexter Fletcher from a script by Sean Macaulay. Matthew Vaughn, Adam Bohling, David Reid, Rupert Maconick and Valerie Van Galder are producing. It has that late-April weekend to itself for now.

According to Box Office Mojo, the week before the release week of EDDIE THE EAGLE will have the fairy tale sequel ( THE HUNSTMAN) and CAPTAIN AMERICA (another superhero sequel) in the succeeding week after EDDIE. Fox must have been eager to position EDDIE THE EAGLE early on because of the competitive rush during that time of the year. Will it be a WIDE release? Hope so!

Fox must have a lot of faith in this movie to have locked in a committed release date, which is right during the year's busy season. EDDIE THE EAGLE is only on its first week of filming. The script is by relatively unknown scriptwriter Sean Macaulay and the director is relatively unknown Dexter Fletcher. Have they even seen any early film rushes?

But who am to question such good luck for EDDIE THE EAGLE

I wonder what screenwriter Macaulay means by "Black List" coverage? Was it farmed out to Black List readers ( producers and other Hollywood people) and then was he given a feedback on the script?

I'll check if the script was ever included in the Black List of recent years.

UK deal struck with Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films.


Lionsgate UK has struck a deal with Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films for rights to Eddie the Eagle, the biopic of British ski jumper Michael Edwards.

Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton star in the biopic directed by Dexter Fletcher, which has just started production in the Alps and moves to the UK next month.

Lionsgate plans to release the film in the UK in Spring 2016. It will be distributed by 20th Century Fox in all other territories worldwide.

Edwards won the hearts of many sports fans by making a catastrophic showing at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.

Kingsman: The Secret Service star Egerton plays Eddie the Eagle and Hugh Jackman plays a ski jumping expert from Lake Placid who helps him train for the Olympics.

Vaughn, Adam Bohling, David Reid, Rupert Maconick and Valerie Van Galder are producing the film from a screenplay by Sean Macaulay.

Lionsgate UK CEO Zygi Kamasa said: “When you combine Eddie The Eagle, Hugh Jackman, Taron Egerton, Matthew Vaughn and Dexter Fletcher making one of the biggest British movies for many years you’ve got something that’s unmissable.
