Things got rowdy on the Jonathan Ross Show as actors Hugh Jackman and Luke Evans realised they had a character in common.

The pair spoke about taking on the role of Gaston in Beauty and the Beast – Jackman portrayed the macho antagonist in a stage production of the story, while Evans will be playing him in Disney’s new live action adaptation.

Of course, this connection resulted in the pair launching into an impromptu rendition of the classic Gaston song from the Disney animation – complete with huge steins of beer to swing around.





It wasn’t the only point where the show got animated – Jackman was appearing on the sofa to talk up his role in new film Eddie the Eagle, about the legendary British Olympic ski-jumper, along with co-star Taron Egerton who plays the titular Eddie.

The celebs passed around a pair of “coke-bottle” glasses, taking it in turn to try on the eye-magnifying specs.

“Eddie is actually a very good looking guy now but in 1988 you’re quite right, he had quite a characterful look,” explained Egerton.



“He had a prominent underbite, coke bottle glasses… But for me it was great that Matthew [Vaughn, producer] thought that I could do something so different than Kingsman. It was an irresistible challenge.”

But as Luke prepared to take on his new role, Hugh was gearing up to say goodbye to his most iconic one, as he discussed his stint as Wolverine in the X Men series.

Confirming that the next Wolverine film will be his last, Hugh, 47, said on Saturday's show: 'One more. That’s the last one… It’s been 17 years, I can’t believe it’s been. It’s amazing.

'With cameos it’s already eight [films], it feels like a lot and I’ve loved it and I’m so excited about this last one I can’t in my head think of anything else to do with the character but I know someone else will take over the role.'

Offering it to host Jonathan, Hugh joked: 'I mean, you seem to be getting into shape. Is there something you want to share with us? Maybe you’re looking to put on the claws?'


Yet whilst the star seemed pensive about stepping down as Wolverine, he admitted that he was looking forward to relaxing the intense fitness regime that got him prepared for the role.

'I actually do like the feeling of being strong and I’m training way harder than I would if I wasn’t in one of these movies but it’s painful, it actually hurts,' he revealed.

'People say, "You get addicted to it." I’m not addicted to it, I’ll be quite looking forward to having a few beers, some burgers and hanging out.'

It would have been great if Luke Evans ( who portrays Gaston) also had his co-star ( who portrays The Beast) in the live-action musical BEAUTY AND THE BEAST around. That would be Dan Stevens -- who was Lancelot in NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 3
