Quite a few comments disagreeing with the song choice for the trailer -- " too modern for a period piece". Take a look at this rejoinder -- Not that Hugh Jackman does not know his Gilbert & Sullivan Time to rewatch KATE AND LEOPOLD so I can hear him play the piano and sing snatches from " I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General" from Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance Jo Search Results I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General - YouTube

Checking back on the feedback section for the official trailer -- I guess if you simply look at the comments, there are quite a few vociferous ones registering their objections ( total comments are a little less than 2500, but with many repetitions from the naysayers). But when you check the stats for those who voted on the LIKE/DISLIKE ratio for the trailer -- it is heartening that the SILENT MAJORITY continue to register their strong approval ( 97.6% of 23,090 who voted) It is this silent majority who will probably opt to spend part of their holiday season watching THE GREATEST SHOWMAN. Someone said it will probably be just the female and the old people demos who will watch it *rolleyes*We'll see

Japan movie fans generally love musicals. Les Miserables did $ 62 M, La La Land did $ 31 M, while Beauty and the Beast generated $ 108.2 M at the box office. I found a Japanese site which was publicizing THE GREATEST SHOWMAN. It looks like their date with the musical will be in February 2018. I don't read or speak Japanese, but Google did www.tvgroove.com/news/article/ctg/2/nid/35627.htmlChina movie fans on the other hand used to be a little lukewarm about Hollywood movie musicals. Les Miserables did only $ 10 M in 2013...but when La La Land came around in 2017, it did $ 35.9 M...and recorded $ 85.8 M when Beauty and the Beast came along later. There has been no news yet if THE GREATEST SHOWMAN will have a playdate in China in 2017 or early 2018 as they only allow a limited number of Hollywood releases there ( mostly blockbusters) but the agreements are now being looked at towards liberalizing them. Fox is usually successful in getting playdates for their movies. Other major musicals marketS include the UK, Brazil, South Korea, Australia, Russia, Germany, Mexico, all registering over $ 30 M for Beauty, with UK bringing in $ 90 M by itself.

It looks like FOX's campaign to present THE GREATEST SHOWMAN as the best holiday present to the family may be working. A site called Young Hollywood thinks it is a gift, with a singing and dancing Hugh Jackman wrapped in a bow - www.younghollywood.com/scene/come-one-come-all-to-enjoy-the-greatest-showman-trailer.htmlStrongest competition will likely come from the next STAR WARS : The Last Jedi, released 10 days earlier than SHOWMAN. Another likely one will be a JUMANJI sequel released on the Friday before the Monday release of SHOWMAN. But if the FOX campaign started this early and sustained till opening day, it is likely that people will plan to see it because it does sound like a holiday movie. STAR WARS and JUMANJI may have their young fans, but will it appeal to the mature demos so much so as to put SHOWMAN aside? Other issues -- *Is there any Star War franchise fatigue yet? *Can Dwayne Johnson replace the unique appeal of Robin Williams? If at all, it will be these 2 movies that will likely compete with each other in terms of audience support.

Was Barnum an actual performer or wasn't he just an impresario?

Okay -- this is where the photo came from It looks like it is this trio that will feature in many of the publicity campaign? What a contrast to the Les Miserables team -- even the young ones ( Amanda, Eddie, Samantha, Aaron) all gave out serious and dramatic vibes Maybe that studio session was one of the main reasons why Hugh was in Hollywood ? Zac posted this himself -- I wonder why Pasek & Paul are with Hugh, Zendaya, and Zac? Is there a new publicity number or just another take on the songs from the movie? Hey, Hugh and Zendaya have complementary fashion sense... while the three looked like they will be the backup singers Jo

Three guys, one of whom says he doesn't do musicals, give it a THUMBS UP! One major reason is HUGH JACKMAN ( " This is Hugh Jackman -- You gotta support him!" " This is his dream project!")...and probably more importantly because they understood the message of the movie ( "No one ever made a difference being like everyone else") ... and how the core storyline is really the start of showbusiness way back then!
For people who don't really do musicals -- it is heartening that they became sold on the movie!

Other than JUMANJI released on the same date on December 22, 2017, PITCH PERFECT 3 ( comedy with music) could be a real competition with THE GREATEST SHOWMAN! Both movies will be competing with each other for that weekend box office ( together with Star Wars :The Last Jedi on its second weekend)...then THE GREATEST SHOWMAN comes along on Monday ( December 25, 2017)!

This trailer has a running time of 1 min 30 seconds ( the first one was over 2'20" min) - unless it is a truncutated version of the first one? New trailer or not -- more publicity material is very welcome Jo

From rollingstone.com -- FOX presentation a Hall H is scheduled for Thursday. Will there be room for a SHOWMAN second trailer ( approx. 1 1/2 minutes)? Hopefully, yes! If this is not new material but simply a truncated first trailer version -- that will at least share with the fanboys that Hugh Jackman is not just WOLVERINE Jo
