Well, very young kids are allowed in theatre and shows in Germany, too (in kid-friendly shows and musicals, puppet theatre, fairytales, etc.), but not for this kind of show that is more adult entertainment. Frankly I'm glad that at least very young kids aren't allowed to attend. Hugh's show is still more a show for adults and not a children's show! I for one would feel disturbed by loud screaming of hordes of children and would feel like I'm in kindergarten. It would also annoy me, if he would rearrange his show to a bit more child-oriented show. But I don't think that many children will attend the German shows anyway, since the movie isn't such a huge hit among children like for instance in England. Plus, all the four German shows are on weeknights.

Yeah, I hope they have an age-restriction in Atlanta. I never thought about it until reading these posts today, that the kids in the audience might be expecting only “The Greatest Showman!” They will probably be upset when “Peter Allen” shows up! 😳😂

This was my reaction in October 2017!

Who would have ever thought that after all the apprehensions then, that its accomplishment on the WORLDWIDE MUSIC CHARTS would have reached this level!! Incredible! And wonderful!!

Again - thanks to Pasek&Paul who wrote the music, to Hugh Jackman and all the singing artists for interpreting the songs, and to Michael Gracey for his hand in helping develop and guiding the performance of these numbers in this well-lauded movie musical!

Sad that Hollywood and those award bodies failed to recognize the diamond amongst them! Coco, indeed! Sorry, Coco - no offense meant but THIS IS ME should have won the Best Song for last year's Oscars!

First -- The Greatest Show!!

Wow -- it is addictive!! You feel like dancing...and singing...and dancing to it... and clapping --

will run out of emojis

It has such a pop sound that is very engaging, very contemporary ...and dare I say it, very millennial! And Hugh -- you could trace his "new" voice and he is very much up to the task

If this is nominated for an Oscar -- that audience at the Kodak ( does the theatre still carry that name?) will be bopping like mad



This Is Me is sort of anticlimactic for me -- maybe because we have heard it so many times...but it is still a very poignant and rousing song of inspiration! Its theme is so much of the moment! And Keala - what a treasure! This song is going to be anthemic!



Have you noticed the background music and whatever you call all those sounds -- I think this was done primarily for the album release. I have a feeling it will be a little different in the movie. But both versions will be fantastic, each one suiting what the music is inspiring you!

Re kids in the show audiences --

*If you ever take a look at the list of LIKES by Hugh Jackman on his Twitter account -- there is a very remarkable high percentage of clips he watched which featured kids doing song or dance covers of songs from The Greatest Showman. They very easily outnumber the covers from young adults to more mature singers. So Hugh must be very, very aware how the show has reached people across all ages -- from practically toddlers to much older folks.

I am not too sure that he would ignore that section of his newfound fanbase


*Also, it must be personally satisfying for him to see very young people develop love for more traditional song and dance, rather than the more current tastes. Maybe even becoming their introduction to musical theatre? Maybe becoming part of the audience when the live adaptation of THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ( when that ever happens) comes to Broadway?


Knowing the kind of fourth-wall and live entertainer he is - maybe Hugh will find a way in his show for the kids to get special attention from him in some parts of the show. Maybe the portion on THE GREATEST SHOWMAN

Me either. LOL But as I said, I don't expect many kids in the German shows, and in the other European shows - except in England - either. And that's a good thing. LOL Hope for you, it's the same in Atlanta. His show is no Disney musical. LOL TGS was quite successful here, but it isn't such a phenomenon like in England. Also, all shows are on weeknights, that should help too. LOL 

Re "Peter Allen", since only Hugh's die-hard fans here know about TBFO, I can't quite imagine that he shows up as "Peter" in the European shows, if at all perhaps only in England. I suppose he will perform a few of the songs and will talk a bit about Peter and TBFO, like he has done it in Istanbul, but won't show up in full costume like he has done it in the Australian shows. That would be a little bit too much and would certainly confuse most of the audience - and the critics. LOL

Quite an achievement. But one thing bothers me about that chart. The number one spot is attributed to “various artists” with no mention of HJ, while the bottom slot IDs the primary artists (Gaga and Cooper). Would have liked to see HJ, as the primary artist on the soundtrack, get his due.

Confirmation that in the UK alone, THE GREATEST SHOWMAN soundtrack album topped the charts for 2018!

For individual songs, This Is Me ranked as #4 followed by The Greatest Show at # 18, Rewrite the Stars at # 32 and A Million Dreams at # 37.

A little confusing, but it validates the topnotcher performance of the soundtrack of THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, presumably in the USA!

In a music world where streaming services now overwhelmingly rule the market, who still actually bothers to buy albums? One obvious answer: people who also buy movie tickets.


BuzzAngle Music’s newly released data for 2018 shows that the two top selling albums of the year were the soundtracks for “The Greatest Showman” and “A Star Is Born.” By BuzzAngle’s calculations, which include an accumulation of individual track sales as well as pure album units, “Greatest Showman” was the sole million seller of the year, racking up 1.3 million in album sales. “A Star Is Born,” which was only released in time for fourth-quarter sales, came in second, with 525,000 albums.

The competition wasn’t even close in the album sales category. The year’s third biggest selling album, Justin Timberlake’s “Man of the Woods,” lagged far behind with 377,000.


That’s not to say that “Greatest Showman” and “A Star Is Born” dominated the year in music, by any means, when streaming was taken into consideration. When BuzzAngle ranked the year’s top albums by total consumption — a much fuller portrait of the year in music — “Greatest Showman” came in a still impressive fourth, behind Drake, Post Malone and XXXTentacion. “A Star Is Born” didn’t make the all-consumption top 25. And when albums were broken out by pure streams, “Greatest Showman” didn’t make that list.


Explanations for the disparity between sales and streaming on these soundtracks aren’t hard to come by. The audience that goes to the movies is hardly an exact overlap with the subscription base for Spotify or Apple Music. But even among moviegoers who do stream, the most impassioned among them may want something more tangible than data as a souvenir.

Another chart was also topped by a soundtrack: 2018’s bestselling vinyl albums. In that resurgent niche
format, “Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1” was No. 1. Its dominance in that medium, with 47,000 LPs sold, was a not-so-ironic fate for a project that celebrates analog nostalgia to the point of putting a cassette tape on the cover.

The list of top-selling soundtracks for the year is also topped by, naturally, “Showman” and “Star.” (An initial report issued by BuzzAngle left those two top entries off the soundtrack chart, in error.) In at No. 3: “Hamilton,” with 239,000 sales, well ahead of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” album, at No. 4 with 168,000, and “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” which sold 150,000 to land in fifth place.

Perhaps the biggest surprise on the soundtrack sales list is “Moana,” a holdover from 2016, but still strong enough to come in at No. 6 for 2018 with 106,000 in sales. It’s not the only release to have come out two years ago or more to make the 2018 soundtrack sales chart. The No. 11 appearance of the companion album for the original “Mamma Mia” album was to be expected, given the popularity of the sequel. But the chart also includes such perennials as “Dirty Dancing,” “Moulin Rouge” and two separate “Frozen” albums.


“Hamilton’s” third-place finish wasn’t the only example of a pre-2018 Broadway cast album making the chart. “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Wicked” placed at Nos. 11-12, respectively.

TV soundtracks had less of a presence than theater, with only Netflix’s “Stranger Things” (No. 16) and the Disney Channel’s “Descendants 2” (No. 19) making a showing in the top 25.

Among song-based albums for non-musicals, after “Guardians of the Galaxy’s” fourth-place showing, “Fifty Shades Freed” came in at No. 8, followed closely by the greatly Grammy-nominated “Black Panther” album produced by Kendrick Lamar at No. 9. (The pure score album for “Black Panther” fell just short of the top 25.)

The only purely instrumental scores to make the top 25 were an album of John Williams’ music for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” at No. 16, along with the “Stranger Things” soundtrack.

Yup, I copied the phrase " Edition United States" on the above post.

Why I think it may cause some confusion was that the article itself was not very clearly written. In the USA, the TGS complete soundtrack has already been certified as being Double Platinum ( at least 2 million, as of August 2018), which includes album and digital sales. The article by Variety says the figures of 1.3 million includes pure album and individual track sales ?? Why combine these - like apples and oranges? It seems poorly written or analyzed. Again, the individual sales have already been certified to by the RIAA - and it has reported that there are 5 tracks which are million sellers -certified Platinum ( This Is Me/The Greatest Show/Rewrite the Stars/A Million Dreams/Never Enough) while 3 have gone Gold ( From Now On/The Other Side/Come Alive). The RIAA is the most respected and acknowledged music sales tracker. It is what Billboard uses for its stats.

Also, the Variety stats does not relate to the reported worldwide figures, as posted by Hugh himself. This seems to be the accepted and correct figures because a previous article cited that the soundtrack has sold 5.3 million in album and digital sales.

The soundtrack to The Greatest Showman is on course for a 26th non-consecutive week at the top of the charts.

The film’s successful cast recording is leading the way by nearly 5,000 combined sales at the halfway point of the week, according to the Official Charts Company.

The soundtrack, which includes vocals from Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams and Zac Efron, is already the longest-reigning number one album of the decade and was the biggest-selling album of 2018.


If The Greatest Showman continues at number one for another three weeks, it will have had more weeks at the chart summit than the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which has had a cumulative 28 weeks at number one.

Staying At Tamara’s by George Ezra is currently in line to score another week at number two, while the soundtrack to A Star Is Born is currently at number three...

But what is most noteworthy to me is that they have reported that Hugh Jackman is listed as Lead Vocalist for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN soundtrack. I hope this has been officially verified by GoldDerby.

In the race for Best Visual Media Compilation, Jackman is nominated as the lead vocalist on the soundtrack for the musical “The Greatest Showman.” Featuring songs by Justin Paul and Benj Pasek (“La La Land,” “Dear Evan Hansen”), the film tells the story of circus impresario P.T. Barnum (played by Jackman), and the soundtrack was a crossover hit, certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

*Black Panther is a nominee for ALBUM OF THE YEAR, while THE GREATEST SHOWMAN is only a nominee in a limited field category? Shouldn't the basis be the album popularity ( TGS is double platinum while Panther is only single platinum certification), the role of the music in the movie, and the impact on culture ( across all ages, gender, and borders)? The Greatest Showman is still in the Top 20 on Billboard 200 ( staying 50 weeks on the charts). Where is Black Panther now? Isn't this more of pandering to the social justice sentiment of inclusivity rather than overall artistic merit?

*The soundtrack of The Greatest Showman is nominated for BEST COMPILATION SOUNDTRACK FOR VISUAL MEDIA. Not descriptive of the soundtrack for TGS because it is not a compilation of previously recorded songs but an original musical score to support the plotline and character development ( as in musical theatre) -- this is really originality, not as the word " compilation" suggests and what we hear in most movies these days.

Odd that the soundtrack is classified under Compilation Soundtrack when it is actually the most qualified to join the classification Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media ("(Award to Composer(s) for an original score created specifically for, or as a companion to, a current legitimate motion picture, television show or series, video games or other visual media.")

The real problem is there is no true classification for musical scores for original movie musicals. Most of the awards are given to background music. Because of the classication or mis-classification, Pasek and Paul's work will not be honored correctly. That is why The Greatest Showman is not nominated in the category.

Also --

Is Hugh Jackman considered the principal artist ( who sings in the majority of the tracks). Excluding the 2 reprises, there are nine ( 9) original songs in TGS. Hugh sings as principal singer in 5 (The Greatest Show/A Million Dreams/Come Alive/TheOther Side/From Now On). With that reckoning, he sings in 56% of the number of full songs. With the 2 short reprises, he partly speaks in A Million Dreams Reprise, that would make it 6 of 11 ( or 54.6%). Hope it is not the amount of time ( in minutes and seconds) used by the artist in delivering his performance


So, there is a chance that he might be a co-winner if THE GREATEST SHOWMAN wins for Best Compilation Soundtrack. This is an awkward classification because it does not really recognize the original composers, and in this case Pasek and Paul!

I have a feeling that the mis-classification is due to a desire to award 2 favorites, one for each category ( hope TGS is one of those favorites)

*No nomination either for best Pop Duo/Group Performance! Is it not Pop (derived from "popular music") enough -- what an irony when the entire range of songs are sung all over the world!. The Greatest Show official audio alone has 95 million hits on YouTube...and if I am not mistaken has also reached Platinum status ( together with This Is Me). That song electrifies people wherever it is heard!

Sorry for the cynical tone -- but THE GREATEST SHOWMAN has been snubbed so often that one feels that some people are going out of their way to put it down

But let's all hope that The Greatest Showman and Hugh Jackman win in the category of Best Compilation Soundtrack! A Grammy is a Grammy ( needed to complete an EGOT)

Sorry … somehow I miss the energy, excitement and sheer raw power of the Hugh Jackman film version!


Seemed more like an almost-listless music video, without the extremely enthusiastic appeal of a charismatic Barnum/Jackman singing with his troupe!

Looking forward to Hugh singing this live during his World Tour!
