Any ideas on what you think will make our new Board better, easier, more fun are welcome and encouraged.

Hey, the time on my posts is off by an hour. (says 3:48pm when it should be 4:48PM) How do I fix this? Even though I'm in the "Western" US time zone, I set the clock on this Board for "Eastern" since that's what we're used to seeing. I don't think it took "Daylight Savings" into account, so I added an hour on the clock. Does it look correct to you now? (I moved this to a new thread so we'd have a place for similar comments and suggestions.)

The "default" setting for all the boards is the way you see them now.
I *think* I can reverse them, so that the most recent post will be on top.
Do you have a preference?

Aren't most of us used to having the newest posts at bottom? But any way you want to set it is A-OK with me.

Let me check after this posts. Oh, and keep the most recent posts at the bottom please.
Nope--the time is still off by an hour (should say 4:43PM)

Nope--the time is still off by an hour (should say 4:43PM) For me, it does say 4:43, as you can see from the "quote" above. If the time on your computer is not the way you like it, try this: Sign in, click "profile" at the top of the page, click "Modify Profile" on the next page and scroll down to select the time setting of your choice.

Is there a way to get all the posts emailed to account like the forum?? I don't see an email "notification" option on this FREE version of the message board. I don't even see an option for being notified of PMs. (You have to look at the "Header" when you sign in; it tells you if you have messages.)
If we decide to pay for a "Pro" Board at some point down the line, I imagine we would have more/better options.
Update on email notifications - see post #18 on this thread.

Is there a way to get all the posts emailed to account like the forum?? I was looking for this feature too as I get the daily digest from the other forum and will miss it. I found that individual threads can be set to email updates. I'm just going to play with that for a while to see if it works for me. The trouble is that if there are 100 threads it would be a lot of emails if they all start updating regularly instead of one long email. How To Do It: You have to choose each thread individually. For instance, the "Hugh and Schoenfeld Memoir" thread that was started yesterday...If you wanted any new posts to that thread you would click on the "Hugh and Schoenfeld Memoir" section (forum name) and when the thread opens on the left side you see a little icon that says "bookmark" next to the one that says "search". For each thread you want follow-up emails about you just click that "bookmark" icon and it automatically goes into your bookmarks section on your profile page. Later you can remove them etc by going to your profile page and click on "manage bookmarks". As we know some threads just fizzle after a while so this would be good to remove old threads that are no longer updating I guess. Though I don't really see the point of doing tat if it isn't generating email. I wish each section called "forum name" was bookmarkable (word?) instead of each "topic" within, that would make it much easier. Also, Valerie, if a section "forum name" doesn't have any posts yet you can't bookmark it. I'd suggest going to each new section and adding an opening thread with the same name as the section so that could be bookmarked for those of us too lazy (me ) to check every section every day. Anyway I haven't played around enough to decide if I like this feature or not. We'll see, Sue

Oh and also, why is the thread "Site News and Information" at the top of every section of threads? It's kind of confusing. Can we have it only once somewhere?

Oh and also, why is the thread "Site News and Information" at the top of every section of threads? It's kind of confusing. Can we have it only once somewhere? I think that's what some boards call "sticky" to highlight the most important area where news will be updated regularly. I think once people are aware that it's the "sticky" section it really isn't a problem having it at the top of each thread. Just MHO.

Nope--the time is still off by an hour (should say 4:43PM) You have to go into your profile section and change your settings. Here's How: Click on Modify Profile. You may not have selected the correct Time Zone so you can check that here under Dates & Times way down on the bottom of the page. There is also a question about whether you are on Daylight Savings where it says "Currently Observing DST" (yes or no) Change to yes if you are in the US.

The "Site News" is a Global Announcement and appears at the top of every thread - just for now. When we get settled in I will undo the "global" thing and it will disappear from all but the General board.
[BTW: a "sticky" keeps a particular thread or post in the TOP position on a particular board. That post is indeed a "sticky" but that's not why it shows up on ALL of the boards.]
I'm looking for an email notification for new PMs. Has anyone figured out how to or IF we can do that?

I like the way this board lets us know who's online at the moment for responding to people's posts.
We might want to have a separate thread for technical questions so people with pictures to post (heh heh) can find out how to do so quickly. Ditto if there's a way to hide spoilers that we might want to include in the body of a thread rather than in a separate discussion say, after a movie has come out.

Foxie - I don't think there's an email "Digest" option here like the one on the old Forum. I think Birchie's suggestion about using the bookmarks is the closest thing I've seen.
"Bookmarks" will notify you of new posts on specific threads by either a PM or direct email.
While answering PMs last night, I noticed that the Inbox has a "preferences" button (up/right) where you can opt to have an email sent when you get a new PM. This is an option I strongly advise everyone to use to their advantage. (The first time I went to the Personal Zone to send a PM on the old board I discovered a cache of PMs sent to me - some of them more than a year old - and hated to think that people assumed I was ignoring them, but I was completely unaware.) ...and, using this option will also eliminate the need for those little "So-and-so, plz check your PMs" blurbs that tend to popup every so often on these forums.
As you discover new similarities/differences, please share your knowledge here so we can all "get up to speed" with this new board as quickly as possible.

I hadn't seen that one before. I was always missing PMs on the old board because I'd forget to check it so having the email option is great.

There's an option "View 10most recent posts". Can you please change the tools to 100 most recent posts or 60 ? Thanks!

HOW TO GET EMAIL NOTIFICATION OF NEW POSTSSign in, Bookmark the threads you want to be updated about, then -- Click on (top/right of any page, left of "logout")> Bookmarks (right of Modify Profile)> Manage Bookmarks (top/right of the list of threads you've selected, above "Last Post") - This will take you to a page where you can manage all the threads that you have already Bookmarked. There's also a DEFAULT selection, which will apply to all future Bookmarks. After a thread has run its course, you can omit it from your list on the Manage Bookmarks page, or by clicking "Remove Bookmark" when you visit the actual thread on the Board. Be sure to click UPDATE BOOKMARKS AND PREFERENCES (gray button, bottom/left) to change your settings. (N.B. You MUST Bookmark at least one thread before you can "manage" them.) P.S. Foxie - I think the "Report to Mod" button is more for nasty Troll activity, not something like this, but I did get a notification of your "Report" by email. That's good to know. Thanks.

Ditto if there's a way to hide spoilers that we might want to include in the body of a thread rather than in a separate discussion say, after a movie has come out. I think this (sort of) is the thread for questions, etc. Pictures: You cannot post a photo in a "Quick Reply" message. You have to click the REPLY button at the top/bottom of the thread where you want to respond. Add Tags:> 4th icon/second row - looks like a picture/postcard When you click on it, it will produce "image tags" in the Message box. (img) put the URL for your photo between the tags(img) The img tags will have [brackets] instead of (parentheses) - but it won't show up in my post if I leave the brackets - because it's looking for an image not text. I'm not sure you can hide spoilers any better here than on the old Board. Best to put a big **SPOILERS** at the top and scroll down a bit. If anyone finds something better, please share here.

I wish we could take a poll on this. I would SO prefer that the new messages be on top, it is so much easier than having to go through another step of finding the last posting and backtrack.

I vote to keep it as it is. All you have to do is click on the last page of the thread and scroll up a bit, just like before.

I used to use the Find "New since your last visit" option on the old board. This was a great way to quickly see recent posts without having to scroll through too much. It'd be good if we could have this function here.
PS. Once again many thanks Valerie for all your efforts. I hope they don't become too time consuming. Rest assured they are very much appreciated.
Cheers,
