I just loved it when I first saw it. The artist, Renny08, belongs to the deviantART community...which I'm always trying to get my son to join...there are literally 10s of thousands of drawings of Wolverine & X-Men (even Hugh Jackman as Hugh Jackman). You can find art depicting almost anything you have an interest in. Anyway this one is my new favorite because it shows that great, quirky chemistry between Yukio & Logan. I hope we see them together in another movie.

It's a cute cartoon, but unfortunately Yukio looks somewhat de-Asianized, if that's a word.

I really liked her character and would not mind seeing her again in another adventure, with or without Wolvie.

He’s agile, he’s limber, he’s muscular—he’s Hugh Jackman. From losing 15 pounds to play Jean Valjean in Les Misérables to buffing up for The Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is one of those few actors for whom these drastic transformations are just part of the job. We spoke to this fit 40-year-old as he revealed his fitness secrets.

Doesn’t it take a toll on your body when you constantly lose and gain weight for different movies?

I ask myself that same question. On one level, I suppose that since I’m training, I’m fit and healthy. But I certainly know that I eat too much meat and too much animal protein; I want to change that. And I think the losing and gaining of weight rapidly is not very good for the body. My friend, who is a doctor, said you need to get regular check-ups now if you’re going to change like that, so I do. And so far, the numbers seem to be okay. But I do watch myself more carefully than I used to. I wake up at four in the morning to train and I often complain about it. My wife just says, “You love it. Stop complaining.” On some level, I do enjoy the challenge of it.


Even when you’re not changing your fitness routine for a movie, you are still in perfect shape. What is your diet regime like?

I call it my 24-hour diet. After working out with weights I have oatmeal and six egg whites for breakfast. Then from 10am onwards, I will have eggs, eggs and only eggs every two hours. Just for the last meal of the day, which is at 6pm, I have chicken, steak or fish with vegetables; protein, protein, protein. It all works out to about 4,000 to 5,000 calories per day.



What is your favourite healthy snack?

My favourite thing that I eat every day is oatmeal with raisins and cinnamon, and just a little bit of almond butter mixed in. Somehow, my diet actually allows it! And it tastes great. Oh, I also love avocado.


What’s always in your fridge that is healthy and nutritious?

Loads of green vegetables, asparagus, beans, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and things like that. There’s always a stack of spinach.


Do you cook? If so, when and what do you cook?

Not many people know that I really like cooking Indian food because it is my favourite cuisine. I go to the market and get all that ingredients and make it from scratch. It’s an all-day event. The aromatic spices lend a nice fragrance in my home.


Which is the sport that you enjoy the most?

Skiing. I learned it on one of those little mountains in Australia when I was 18 and I fell in love with it. And every time I can, I go skiing. Unfortunately for me, because of filming and insurance, it doesn’t happen very often, but I go when I can.


Over the span of your career you’ve done many stunts, which one had pushed you to your physical limits?

Well, that’s a good one. Quite a few actually. In the first X-MEN movie, we had to out leather suits on. I’ve never suffered from heat exhaustion, but that time, I was taken to the hospital. It was the worst day in my life. There have been many more such instances. While shooting for The Wolverine itself, we did the scene in the same leather suit where I was being dropped off; falling from the statue of Liberty’s head and I stop myself by putting my claws into the side of the statue of Liberty. Obviously I didn’t have the claws, I just had to pretend. So I had a harness and as I was falling, and you can relate to this as a man, the harness comes up around my groin area and it had dislodged, so as I stopped, it literally was yanking on the place you didn’t want it to. I screamed and yelled and they thought that I was screaming as the character and they just held me there until I started sweating. Anyway, I finally got that together and then in the afternoon I was rigged to fly and something went wrong and I literally went straight into the camera. I remember thinking, Wow, this superhero business may not be for me. But here I am, 13 years later and still going strong.

But honestly, the scariest thing that I have ever done is horse riding in the film Australia. We were doing a stampede scene, but I was riding with only a pack of four or five horses, as the other 20 had decided to come directly at us, and it freaked out all the horses including the one that I was on. I really thought that I was going to be thrown into the pack, that this was the end.

It looks like Hugh will be in Japan next week, for the premiere of the movie in the country which was as much a part of the story as THE WOLVERINE!

The Wolverine will have its Tokyo premiere on Wednesday, August 28. Hugh is presumably attending the event ( without his Wolverine facial hair ) ... The movie opens to the public in Japan on September 13.
