Nice fan vid of Hugh signing at the premiere. He nicely tells fans that he can't do 'selfies' with them cause there are too many people and he throws tee shirts to the crowd.

I was just watching that clip --
*Proof that his fanbase crosses borders in a big way! Amazing how young that crowd was!!
*He had a lot of practice throwing towels to the crowd almost a decade ago - LOL!
I hope a clip of that Fukuyama ceremony turns up somewhere, too.

He always seems to be having fun on those Japanese TV shows. (I added a direct link.) His powers of concentration amaze me. I would never be able to sound intelligent with so much going on around me and everyone talking at once. <insomnia> Sue

Looking good in Tokyo... I do prefer Hugh sans all that Wolverine facial hair.

With that fan video, I was like "awww, he even apologizes". I can imagine the disappointment, especially if they have been waiting there for a few hours but Hugh always wants to give his autograph to everybody and you can tell that he really is sorry to say no to a fan...

I was hoping he would be going to Shanghai ( for another possible premiere) -- except we have not heard if China has approved the release of THE WOLVERINE in that country. I have just read that some of the box office numbers for certain movies released there have actually exceeded $ 100 million each (IronMan3 and Pacific Rim) and other robust numbers for other Hollywood movies ( such as Fast and Furious which raised over $ 60 million, IIRC).
Of course some have speculated that the strained relations between Japan and China, historically and even at present, may not favor the release of any movie that depicts Japan in a favorable manner. But we have read that FOX has actually submitted the movie for consideration in the Chinese market.

LOL, Hugh looks like he's semi-twerking in that photo. It annoys me that I am now conversant with that word.

Who would think that this team would deliver the goods? It was such a great feeling to read how so many XMEN fans " returned" to the fold because they thought THE WOLVERINE finally delivered what they wanted from the character? Many rank it now as either at the top or in second place of the XMEN series! *One actor, although much loved, but whose previous incarnation of the original backstory was met with divisive reactions, to say the least! *One director who would direct a superhero movie for the first time. *Two former fashion models, without any previous acting experience, who come from another part of the world *A respected Japanese actor, but not too well known by movie fans *A setting that is an alien culture to the superhero. A-ma-zing !!!!! Jo

OT :The first time they worked together, James Mangold put Hugh Jackman in a bathtub ( fit for a duke). All I need now is a screencap of Wolverine being washed by two lady attendants in a Japanese bathtub, again with James Mangold directing the scene! I guess I have to wait for the pair of the above photo - LOL! Jo

The Wolverine has taken over $351 million worldwide since its opening earlier this month, Box Office Mojo reported. The production budget was $120 million. The 2009 film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, took $373 million worldwide, whereas the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand took $459 million worldwide. The first film in 20000, X-Men, took $296 million worldwide and had a production budget of $75 million. Jackman has already filmed the next film in the franchise, X-Men: Days of Future Past. He has denied agreeing $100 million deal to star in another four Wolverine films. "I've never done that mainly because, for the fans and for me, each time I've gone around there's been a really good reason to do it and I don't know what that reason is from here," he said. But we have read that FOX has actually submitted the movie for consideration in the Chinese market. Jo So it seems that China unfairly skews international box office totals since most movies aren't shown there. i.e.: If that $100mil is correct for Pacific Rim it would represent just over one third of the total international gross! That makes quite a difference when comparing movie grosses! Of course, once The Wolverine officially opens in Japan next month the numbers should go up a lot. I don't think it's likely that China will come around though since the movie uses Japanese themes throughout. Sue

Pacific Rim has already made $ 110 million to-date in China alone. www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=pacificrim.htmThat was why Hollywood was so eager to settle the additional tax levy controversy with China. It did get settled recently. But while overseas markets are now a fast expanding market base, conventional wisdom says that the recovery rate is only about 25% of receipts ( compared to North America where it is about 50%). What I read about the strategy of IronMan3 was they sold the rights to a local Chinese distributor...and also spent a lot on marketing. Maybe Pacific Rim did the same thing because it lists " China Film" as its distributor there. Les Miserables did about $ 10 million in China, despite it being a sung-through musical ( likely cannot be dubbed). But it recorded a suprising $ 62 million in Japan. XMEN movies did only moderately well in Japan in the past. Jo

GREAT NEWS -- Wolverine will be speaking in Chinese soon It looks like it will open there on OCTOBER 17! Based on his twitter data, Mr. Franklin seems to be based in Beijing. I wonder if there will be a premiere in China and will Hugh be travelling there? The opening date occurs after his LA-based ONE-NIGHT-ONLY concert on his birthday October 12. Jo
