James Mangold tweeted the following very interesting clues to The Wolverine: James Mangold @mang0ld I'm posting images from films that inspired/influenced THE WOLVERINE. Name the movies. Even better, go see them. He posted 10 pix from the following movies: 1 Chung King Express 2 Josey Wales 3 Samaurai Trilogy 4 Floating Weeds 5 Black Narcissus 6 Happy Together 7 13 Assassins 8 French Connection 9 Chinatown 10 Shane Quite an eclectic mix of inspiration. You can look at his twitter feed to see the pix if you haven't seen the movies. Sue

I have a feeling that this movie might be *the movie* we were waiting for. I love the picture with bloody claws. It was about time!

Sue, they're from Total Film Magazine, I believe. I've never heard of it but they were posted on a Hugh fan Facebook page. And it does look like there's blood on his claws! (Never been more excited about mutant violence!)

If this is his swan song as Wolvie, let it be as a Portmanesque "Black Swan"--down and dirty intense and shocking.
What a way to go. I hope he goes out with a bang and hangs up his claws.

It looks like it might very well be the best Wolvie we've seen. Sue

Ellen Well, we will see him one more time in Days of Future Past. I too would like to see him go out with a definitive bang though, so I hope they are both powerful slam dunks! Sue

LOL, Sue, I must have blocked out DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Well, that's likely an ensemble piece, not a Wolvie-centric movie. But as effective as he is as a mutant, I'm looking forward to an end to that chapter of his career and his getting really exciting roles in a wide range of good films.

There are clearer photos here, but more importantly there is information when the teaser/trailer will hit the big screen! www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=101664#commentLstTopHopefully, the teaser/trailer will also be released online at around the time of the big screen release on March 28! Wow - the Les Miserables BluRay/DVD is released on March 22 and some six days later (March 28) the teaser/trailer for The Wolverine is also released and the internet will be a-buzz about it! Quite a diametrical comment on the talent of Hugh Jackman Jo

Ellen,
Many of his fans would like him to move on to other types of movies suitable to his talent ( after the display of his Oscar-worthy talents in Les Miserables), but can he also desert his fanboys? It was XMEN which put his name on the map...and even allowed us to see him often on stage. Many fans cannot see recasting Wolverine at this point, even if they still think Hugh is too tall and too "pretty" for the role ;D
I think he might do a third solo Wolverine movie ( could it be Old Man Logan?) if an excellent script comes up, to complete the trilogy. But can he say NO to Fox if they ask him to be part of the ensemble for any future franchise sequels ( I have a feeling he did not actively seek the role in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST but it must have been difficult to decline Fox's and maybe even Bryan's requests)? Maybe DAYS OF FUTURE PAST could be his last ensemble appearance?
I have also had the feeling that FOX is his defacto mother studio and maybe it may not be that easy to say NO. Hopefully, he can negotiate meaningful elements of any blockbuster movies so that his own artistic goals can be met, if that can be done in action movies.
Interesting that Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is also committed to do DAYS OF FUTURE PAST ( as Mystique) and maybe a sequel to HUNGER GAMES. Even serious actors like Robert Downey has his IRON MAN and AVENGERS, too. And Daniel Craig ( who was good in Defiance) has signed up for two more Bond films. I find it ironic that directors like Kenneth Branagh (Thor) and Sam Mendes ( Skyfall) helm blockbuster movies when they are more known for directing dramatic material. Must be because the demographic profiles of the moviegoing audiences have now skewed very heavily towards this kind of entertainment.
I just hope that Hugh can give equal time to excellent dramatic movies as well as stage appearances which, for practical purposes, should probably be not more than 6 months excluding rehearsals every time, so he does not stay away from any big screen releases too long such as what happened after TBFO.

Jo, you're probably right. He does seem to be intensely grateful and loyal to Fox, perhaps to a fault. I just hope his acquiescing to their requests does not have a negative effect on the momentum that should be building on the heels of his Oscar nomination.

I can't wait to see the trailer! I have to admit that while I like the projects Hugh has been filming lately, I do like it too when he plays Wolverine!

Details on the first teaser/trailer have been leaked ;D schmoesknow.com/?p=10447There is a video clip where the person who has seen the trailer or knows someone who has seen the trailer describes the details. Or...if you don't mind the
SPOILERS*****SPOILERS*****SPOILERS*****SPOILERS*****SPOILERS here is the description --
“Funky Japanese girl carrying samurai sword finds Wolverine. He’s got long hair, beard and looks very transient. She says, “Nice to meet you “Wolverine”. He says, “I’m not that man anymore.” They get on a private jet and fly to Japan. He meets an elderly Japanese man who is lying in very modern medical bed. He tells “Logan” (clearly he knows him) he wants to thank him for the life he saved.
Flash back to POW camp, we see Logan shield a man from a plume of fire from a massive explosion. The Japanese man offers to give him his life back.
There are several action sequences, one where Logan fights a ninja and the ninja slices him with two swords. We see Logan grin as all the wounds heal immediately an he goes berserk on the ninja. Logan tells the old man that he can’t be fixed, the old man says dont be so sure.
More action sequences, one on top of a high speed train a la mission impossible. We see Logan and the funk Japanese girl and her men attacked and Logan is wounded. He says, I’m not healing any longer. Cut to distorted image of him looking in mirror, he says, “What’s happening to me.” That sounds pretty damn exciting to me! My source also told me that the tone is dark and gritty and the CGI isn’t noticeable like that shit show Origins.
Check us out on Twitter and we will do a trailer review once it debuts next week!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am not highlighting the "secret" in case you just stumbled on this post ;D Jo
