It’s not hard to see why 20th Century Fox’s $200 million-plus X-Men: Days of Future Past is the priciest and most complicated X-Men film to date. “I think this is the biggest movie Fox has made that James Cameron didn’t direct,” says producer-writer Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class). Adapted from a fan-favorite 1980 comic storyline by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, Past unites the original cast of the X-Men franchise (Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, etc.) with the stars of 2011′s prequel First Class (Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult). With the X-Men hunted in the distant future by mutant-killing robots called the Sentinels, Wolverine (Jackman) is sent back in time to his 1973 body to stop Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) from assassinating the inventor of the Sentinels, Bolivar Trask (Game of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage). Keeping Trask alive prevents a devastating war between mutants and humans — and keeps Mystique among the do-gooding mutants. As Kinberg explains, “A lot of people have an emotional investment in her not going to the dark side.” Speaking of dark sides, Wolverine must also unite frenemies Erik (Fassbender), who’s been (wrongly?) imprisoned for the JFK assassination, and Charles (McAvoy), now a drugged recluse living with Hank, a.k.a. blue-furred Beast (Hoult).


The hope is that this all-star cast, beloved storyline, and returning director Bryan Singer, who helmed the first two X-Men films, will bring even more eyes into the theater. “The hope is that Days of Future Past will broaden the audience for X-Men such that it will motivate potential spin-offs even more,” Kinberg says. The challenge is that legions of non-comic fans are less familiar with the powerful mutants. “Everyone grew up knowing Captain America or the Hulk, but not X-Men characters—I didn’t even know who Wolverine was,” Singer says. “I call X-Men the bastard stepchild of the comic universes.”

<< I immediately knew that it would be great when Bryan told me about the film. I had the impression that a loop is completed comprehensive technology. Secretly, I said to myself: ' Oh no, it's not going to start over! I am fed up with the draconian regime that I have to follow. (Laughs.) But Bryan is more than a friend, I owe him everything. X-Men was my first American movie and that is how I learned my craft. I am here today with that and I'm sure that Days of Future Past will break everything. This is the best script of the saga; the technological ambition is crazy and scenes of action too. And don't bother to tell you that the cast is unbeatable... For Wolverine, this film is important because it begins at a time where the character has really evolved. He is orderly compared with the first X-Men and has learned a lot about himself and others. Everyone? Hugh Jackman looked a little disappointed to regain strength for this movie as he was leaving from Wolverine...
I know. There a discipline of hell in these cases. There was a time where Hugh was sometimes coming to dinner with us during the shootings, but it's over. The regime that it must follow to play Wolverine is hyper strict: he trains and eats a meal every two hours, his last of the day taking place at 6 pm. He made one exception during the filming of Days of Future Past when Jim Gianopoulos (president of Fox) visited us. We three went to the restaurant and Hugh watched us eat (Laughs.) He spent the meal to contemplate what you ordered, saying: << Oh, that's very good, that. >> I suggested politely to taste, but it was a duty to refuse every time. Once I ordered a martini, he dropped a : << Oh, I love Martinis ... >> It has almost become annoying after a while!

If Wolverine is the central character, serving as linkage between time periods, why the heck is Jennifer Lawrence front and center on the EW cover?

What is more odd is that Charles Xavier has been left out, when it is his character which is supposedly the focus in the storyline. Wolverine is the catalyst for bringing the two time periods together but the story is not centered on him but on the young and aging Professor Xavier ( this is from what I have read...and from the focus in various publicity materials). It is the way the young Charles is refocused to become the leader of the XMEN again, as wished for by the older Prof Xavier and as conveyed by Wolverine that resolves the "future" issue of the rampaging sentinels and the extinction of the XMen.

When I posted the question of why Charles has been left out on IMDB, someone retorted saying a naked blue woman will sell more magazines than a man in a wheelchair

I wonder if it was EW's prerogpative how the cover should look like -- they are more keen in selling the magazine compared to FOX's goal of selling the movie?

The London date is still missing -- I think that is going to be a key one, as massive publicity has ramped up at that end.

So, this is just for the film premiere for SOUTHEAST ASIA ( that is us, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and of course Singapore...hope I haven't forgotten anyone in the area...this is basically tropical Asia!).

I guess there will be premieres for north Asia/Far East Asia ( although we also consider ourselves as part of the Far East) - such as Shanghai and Seoul and Tokyo ( although Japan was a very big box office disappointment for THE WOLVERINE).

Will Hugh be available for all or most of the DOFP premieres?

Fox is now talking about a MYSTIQUE spinoff ( aka cashing in on Jennifer Lawrence's popularity) -- I guess they must have suggested that cover photo emphasis. Funnily enough, Mystique is not the alternate XMan of choice for spinoffs -- Deadpool leads the pack...and the popular chatter is usually for Rogue or Storm among fanboys!

No offense meant to Jennifer - but I thought Rebecca Romijn was a much better Mystique ( more alluring and therefore more deceitful, really deadly!)...and with better acting. Despite her Oscar, Jennifer's Mystique in FIRST CLASS was not first class...or maybe the script was not well written for that part! Maybe she will elevate the Mystique portrayal in DOFP to the levels of the "frenemies" ( friend and enemies Charles and Magneto, acted out by Stewart/McAvoy and McKellen/Fassbender) and the point man himself, the Wolverine!

Just wondering why Logan would have his claws seemingly drawn against Professor Xavier? Or was he being restrained by his mentor against someone else ?


Btw - if you squint at the huge painting on the background --- that is LIBERTY LEADING THE PEOPLE ( prominently displayed at the Louvre in Paris). If you have seen the painting, on the side is the character of Gavroche, or the inspiration for Gavroche, standing beside "Liberty" ( representing mother France). The worlds of Valjean and Wolverine meet here in a strange fashion

@realhughjackman Fukuyama is full of 85 million roses. The rose :Woiverine:Fukuyama」will be born at Fukuyama rose festival 2014 in 17 May.

Didn't Fukuyama (where they filmed the scenes outside Tokyo) give Hugh honorary or special ambassador honors after the filming, if I recall right?

I wonder if Hugh will be in Tokyo for a possible premiere for DOFP near that date?

I think the Singapore premiere is scheduled for May 14?

It looks like the plans to name a special rose for Wolverine was already made known when Hugh was appointed Tourism Ambassador for the city of Fukuyama.

I wonder how long Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg spent time on putting a historical veil around the events that traced the mutants' journey?

Someone commented that the narrative may be too dark and the storyline too complicated to leisurely enjoy the movie ( like other simpler superhero movie plots) - LOL! That would be the challenge
