The saga of Wolverine, aka Logan, in a few choice words! PS : I wonder when Hugh made the voiceover work? It must have been only recently -- the film wrapped mid-August and Mangold has been at the Edit suite since then. Presumably the marketing campaign was put together on solid footing only after JM edited the assembled film scenes and came up with his first pass of the director's cut. The promotional campaign was unveiled only recently, right around Hugh's birthday. Did the team of Mangold, Jackman, and the presumably newly re-organized marketing team at FOX then come up with an important teaser ( see above ), right around when Hugh was recently in LA -- at the MPTF event or even later at an undisclosed time, that can fully encapsulate the message of LOGAN, even before the first trailer appears! Questions fans are asking -- *Is the movie going to retain the atmospheric and stark look of the initial marketing images released - a superhero movie in black and white?? Or is the teaser ( in black and white, too) simply the end-punctuation for the first burst of images from the movie ( using the modern means to communicate - Instagram, twitter, YouTube, etc.) supported by analyses and speculations from film sites. Some fans seem to think a black-and-white feature film will be a rare and effective way to tell Wolverine's final tale...but also hope that a real-life color palette will appear on screen or at very least in a bluRay/DVD edition My guess -- there might be some scenes in black and white...and then the story will be told in color ( how else can gore be more effectively presented ?) . We'll see. The tone of the movie seems to be that of a film noir -- is it destined to be a classic?? *Is it the Western tone that seems to be contributing to that perception? Some fans think the images and the teaser evoke Clint Eastwood's acclaimed UNFORGIVEN. Mangold has publicly said that he likes the vibe that came from the look of classic westerns ( he did direct the much-praised "3:10 to Yuma") and has even said recently that he wants to do another "pure" western. This is so far from his first collaboration with Hugh in KATE AND LEOPOLD ( hey, weren't there some black and white scenes there?). *Will Wolverine pass on the torch...to the young hand which clings to his wounded hand with the claws extended?? *What kind of storyline and film images will result in an R-rating. It won't have the cheekiness of Deadpool ( far from it!) but will likely be a very realistic look at the lonely and violent life this mutant has lived. *He looks like Old Man Logan...but the vibe from the marketing is beginning to sound like the end of Wolverine, in more ways than one? Will we see him die??!!!*One fan even wistfully sent this message : " And the next Oscar winner is...". Why ever not ??!! Just some rambling thoughts. I am beginning to feel that this will be no ordinary tale...and I will not be surprised that at the end of the movie, people will be very sad to say goodbye to Wolverine, too! Jo

Don't look now as the video clip might be a leak of the trailer to be unveiled October 20...you may want to see the trailer in its best light -- not a bootlegged version. Those who can't wait - well I am not even sure if this is the real trailer -- although the scenes look real...so, at your own risk SUPER SPOILER ALERT***************SUPER SPOILER ALERT***************SUPER SPOILER ALERTwww.facebook.com/MovieFilms/videos/1214580098611417/

Not meant to entice... but just to get a whiff of initial reactions, even to a badly-made bootleg version of the trailer --
And from the feedback section of the upload of the song accompanying the trailer --
From IMDB -- from someone who saw the leaked trailer --

SPOILER ALERT**********SPOILER ALERT*********SPOILER ALERT*******SPOILER ALERTSPOILER ALERT**********SPOILER ALERT*********SPOILER ALERT*******SPOILER ALERTSPOILER ALERT**********SPOILER ALERT*********SPOILER ALERT*******SPOILER ALERTIf you peeked and was trying to place the song ( which does give the movie a western vibe), it is Johnny Cash's HURT. I checked out one version on YouTube and it has an astonishing 25 million hits. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt1Pwfnh5pcBut there is another upload which focuses on the lyrics -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ffFaJSDv9gThe tempo, the melody, the lyrics , the overall melancholia -- they do seem to all fit in! Bravo, Mangold and company! Also, people have already started identifying it ( through the feedback section) as one of the musical themes for LOGAN! Lol - one already warned : "Here come the XMen fans!" Btw, Mangold directed the biopic on Johnny Cash called WALK THE LINE. Will the Johnny Cash's song be used only for the trailer, to give it an emotionally-appealing vibe?. Jo

The RED BAND TRAILER has been released for the international market. It is just one scene ( around 1'27"/1'28" ) -- gulp --but that's a perfect scene to elicit an R rating! www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhFP0V6n7aY

#LOGAN is now trending according to Twitter's Worldwide Trends! It's been pretty exhausting trying to keep up with all the online reactions ( filmsites, entertainment sites, social media ) and reading as much of feedback reactions as I could. I do need a course in speed-reading But it has been exhilarating because -- *Overall reaction is very positive ( even from the usual cynical fanboys and fanboy sites). "Awesome!" and " Incredible" are the words of choice! But I have seen the word "tearful" or "teary-eyed" often, to describe the reactions. *The Red Band trailer upped the interest even more...but not in a forced way at all. *People say the vibe is very sad but this is very refreshing because this could be the first comicbook movie that has the hallmark of an excellent drama with meaningful characterizations. It connotes drama and realism, and is as far away from the usual CGI blockbusters of explosions and world destruction as possible...that this director is showing us a film, not a movie! *It is earning compliments -- one even dared to hope that this could be the first Oscar-bait comicbook movie! It has also been tagged as "the indie" ( aka arthouse) comicbook movie. *Every few messages carry the " I couldn't help it -- I cried!" revelation - even from and maybe not surprisingly from fan boys! It is not just this seemingly poignant ending to the Wolverine saga but fans are truly sad about Hugh's departure as the film Wolverine! *Some say that this is a more realistic depiction of Wolverine/Logan -- normal hairstyle, more grizzled, less muscular than the exaggerated images of past movies, tortured, but still badass! *But some point out that the relationship among the three ( Logan, the ailing Charles, and Laura) have their generally sad but also occasional happy moments - so it will not all be depressing. People are taken by that shot of Logan sleeping on Laura's lap...as well as the shot of Logan carrying the ailing Prof X to bed! Logan and Prof X will always be the best of friends, in a mentor and almost-son relationship! *There is universal attraction for the suitability of the the trailer music - how it was the perfect accompaninment to the unfolding final story of Logan! *Overall, I keep reading that this movie has HEART! Of course this is only the trailer! Will the movie truly depict the excellent points from the trailer?Hey, the movie could even be much better Jo

Some other observations --
It is not in black and white ...but have you noticed that the color palette is subdued, almost neutral. Mostly earth colors with the exception of the blue sky and hints of blue in the costumes. And except of course the prominence of the RED color of gore!
I wonder why they opted for Hugh to wear a wig -- he could have just had his own hair, liberally streaked with artificial grey. Of course we haven't seen the movie -- maybe there are other time segments in the storyline where what we had seen as his close-cropped hair might figure out ?
People ask why the budget is fairly large ( $ 127 million after tax credits) when it seems to contain more human drama than actual major scenes identified with action movies, especially for comicbook movies? Again, we have not seen the entire movie yet and many other things could be in store?
Other than Laura, is there no other prominent female roles in the plot? No romantic interest for Logan? Of course Hugh has always been excellent acting out the role of Dad or surrogate Dad to kids.
Btw, I think the movie will appeal not only to regular comicbook movie fans but it could also appeal to the female demos strongly because of the dramatic slant of the film.

Aren't major cast and creative team announcements made at the end of each trailer? I remember that from past movies I have seen of Hugh and where I definitely looked at trailers a number of times? Where is the casting announcement on this first trailer? What...or...who ... are they hiding Jo

SPOILER ALERT*******************SPOILER ALERT******************SPOILER ALERTThis EMPIRE interview is very insightful, even if James Mangold does not disclose some details deliberately. But it explains his cinematic vision and approach to this unusual slice of the saga of Wolverine ( aka Logan). It is broken up into segments that raise particular points from very curious fans. www.empireonline.com/movies/features/logan-trailer-breakdown-james-mangold-talks-us-first-teaser/ He was never asked why they chose to call this film LOGAN - it seems they are very deliberate in their choices...and this would have been very revelatory.

There was some clamor for a Black and White color palette, after the initial marketing images which had a film noir feel about them. There have also been requests to James Mangold to release a special black-and-white cut as a special feature when the BluRay/DVD is released.
This was done by a fan who stripped the original trailer to a Black and White version.
Sometimes, fanboys amaze me in a startling but very good way!

Did you try to sing Logan's Soliloquy All the responses on the internet are overwhelming! As one tweeter said : "Hugh, you won the internet today!" One of the fanboy sites ( it used to be the site), AIN'T IT COOL NEWS, can sometimes have very annoying comments on their feedback section... But this time, their discussions and humor are enjoyable to read ( including a joke about Jackman being on a role) ...Since yesterday, there have been 530 comments www.aintitcool.com/node/76548?utm_source=full-feed&utm_medium=feed&utm_term=coolnews&utm_campaign=1310_RSSIn a more serious tone, one talked about how good the Logan and Charles relationship has been portrayed...and that people are really sorry to see them go, after this movie. Someone predicted that the X-23 alternative will not work out ( as have other superheroine portrayals not worked out- somewhat chauvinistic comment and not politically correct... but truthfully pragmatic -- women do not really make excellent superheroines in comic book movies) -- so he predicted that 5 years from now, they will offer Hugh Jackman $ 50 million and Patrick Stewart $ 20 million to make another "last" XMen movie, focusing once again on Wolverine! Wishful thinking ?? Maybe Jo

Could Hugh sing HURT as part of the credits? I think the song would suit his vocal range -- because he can also sing in deeper baritone ( my favorite song from The Boy from Oz is the THE LIVES OF ME). That would make the song HURT even more personal for the movie itself. Just a thought Jo
