One fanboy's fervent wish --

This will be the most unique entry ever in to superhero cinema. They should rush it and release it in a few theatres in December. Make it eligible for Oscar.

We all wish!

But it is not practical --

*There is the danger of piracy looming ahead if it is released way ahead of the slated release date for the public

*If it is shown only in a limited number of theaters -- you might get a riot in your hands ... or have a queue at the box office days ahead of the showing

I know, you weren’t expecting a trailer for an X-Men installment of all things to be the one that made you cry this week; but this preview for Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah as Wolverine is unique for a bunch of different reasons. For starters, Logan is based on an acclaimed comic called Old Man Logan, which is reflective and sad, far from your typical superhero comic. Director James Mangold is known for doing “reflective and sad” very well in his films, in dramas like Girl, Interrupted and Walk the Line. (And of course the trailer uses Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt.” JUST STAB US IN THE GUT AND LET US BLEED OUT ALREADY.)

Finally, if the trailer is any indication of the movie that awaits us, we’re in for a gorgeous time at the movies. Look at all those perfectly framed scene compositions, the desolate Western imagery, the subtle but quality camerawork! Okay, sure, there are also adamantine claws and Patrick Stewart being Patrick Stewart-y, in case you forgot this was an X-Men film about superheroes. But I’m happy to forget, because Logan actually looks like a film anyone can enjoy, superhero fan or not.

I wonder how James Mangold feels about this tremendous reception to the first trailer...which now sets up undue expectations of a probable second trailer...and of the movie itself! Hope it inspired and energized him further to work on that final version with even greater efforts!

Logan: watch the emotional first trailer

We've had a veritable feast of great trailers over the past week or two, from from John Wick to Rogue One, Assassin's Creed and A Cure For Wellness. But none of the above, no matter how impressive, have been quite so artfully constructed as this glorious first look at James Mangold's Logan.

Effectively set to Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt, we see (old man) Logan looking suitably grizzled and mean, a nonagenarian Professor X and a young girl (Dafne Keen) who is given into Logan's care, one who is 'just like him'. It's one hell of a warm up for the film, which looks like it will go a very long way towards making up for the disappointment of X-Men Apocalypse.

The eagle-eyed among you will notice one shot that's different between the above UK trailer and the US cut (below). Where we get Logan skewering a man's skull with his claws (nothing says 'this will not be a PG-13 movie' quite like a brain kebab), the US cut is slightly less gory, instead swapping in a very telling shot of Logan crossing claws with an offscreen attacker. Those familiar with the comics will certainly be drawing some conclusions (cough X-23 cough) but nothing has been officially confirmed at this point.

Last week saw a flurry of information on the third Wolverine spin-off Logan, culminating in a spine-tingling first trailer, and then an Empire-exclusive trailer breakdown with director James Mangold. During that breakdown, we pressed Mangold on who exactly the mysterious girl in the trailer was – but he stayed tight-lipped. Now it looks like we have confirmation: she is in fact the character known as ‘X-23’.

Logan’s official Instagram account, the enigmatically-named @wponx (as in, Weapon X), posted an image of Dafne Keane, the actress who plays the character, with the caption “Laura”. In the comics, X23 is a girl named Laura Kinney, and the clone-daughter of Logan from the Weapon X programme hoping to replicate Wolverine’s regenerative powers and super-strength. She is the 23rd attempt to make such a clone, hence the name. She is a relatively new character, first appearing in 2004, and has since appeared as part of the X-Force team.

Mangold heavily hinted that would be the case, telling us last week: “I think I will just let speculation run rampant about that. I think what this film is about in many ways is family. From there out I’d let everyone figure out what we’re up to on their own, at least at this early stage.”...

Well I have this looping inside my brain. Problem with having my memories they stay there forever.

Hope it eventually translates into repeat and repeat and repeat patronage of the movie! What a sendoff it will be for Hugh Jackman!

I open today's edition of my daily (local)newspaper and it is the first time I remember that a long article simply based on a trailer is featured prominently ( even in a boxed feature to highlight it...and using Mangold's Logan portrait of Hugh Jackman and a white-on-black layout to give it stronger focus). Btw it is a business-oriented newspaper, similar to the Wall Street Journal.

It reprinted the article posted by THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, via a Bloomberg news distribution --

In a world where endless sequels lead to box-office billions, the final 'Wolverine' is a rarity.

By going into the future, it looks like Logan is finally giving Wolverine the big screen adaptation the character deserves.

The new trailer, which debuted Thursday after weeks of teasing, sells the movie as a simple, western tale. Logan rides into town, reconnects with his old mentor and reluctantly must save a child whose powers make her a target, just like he was years earlier at the hands of Weapon X. There's no cities being destroyed or Easter Eggs setting up an extended universe.

If Logan delivers on the promise of this trailer, it will be a true rarity in modern superhero movie making.  
With his final film as Wolverine, Hugh Jackman will leave behind perhaps the greatest legacy of any superhero actor ever. Christopher Reeve launched it all with Superman, Heath Ledger gave the best comic book movie performance of all time as the Joker, and Robert Downey Jr. turned Iron Man into the centerpiece of an unprecedented cinematic universe. But Jackman may top them all. After starring in four X-Men films (and cameos in two more) and three Wolverine spinoffs, he will have spent a 17 years with the character — carefully building an emotional bond with the audience through the good and the bad. 

My absolute favorite shots of the trailer shows Logan, Charles (Patrick Stewart) and their young charge smiling around a dinner table. The X-Men films have been at their best when they are about family, and even in these bleak times, these lost heroes have found it again. The expression on Charles' face says so much — and the trailer is a reminder of how much Stewart has given to the sci-fi and comic book movie genres. It's not only those years of playing Charles — but also the years of playing Jean Luc-Picard — that he's bringing to that dinner table. 

There's also a true sense of sadness hinted in this tale. Mutantkind is basically extinct and our heroes are weakened. Logan's healing factor isn't what it used to be and Xavier — once the most powerful being on the planet — is bedridden, living inside an abandoned smelting tower.

There is no saving the world here. No matter how bad things get in the Marvel or DC film universes... well, there's always the next movie to fix things, isn't there? Not this time. It really seems like there's nothing our heroes can do to fix the screwed up world, other than to do right by a young girl (Dafne Keen), who is modeled off the comic fan favorite X-23, billed as the "female Wolverine." She's got claws and healing powers that put her in the cross hairs of Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook), an anti-mutant fanatic who either wants to kill her or experiment on her. Saving her will be the last deed of two men who have saved the world multiple times throughout their careers. 

For the X-Men franchise (which still has plenty of projects in the pipeline without Jackman), it hasn't always been smooth sailing. (As Jackman noted at San Diego Comic-Con in 2015, the fans have always let them know when things haven't gone well.) And trailers can be deceiving, but so far it looks like Jackman's Wolverine is in very good hands for his final big screen adventure.

Who wouldn't want to see Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart set to Johnny Cash?

What if the greatest X-Men movie ever met the greatest X-Men trailer of all time?


One fan answered that question by delivering a trailer for 2003's X2: X-Men United in the style of next year's Logan.

Sam Ibrahim, a freelance video editor, put it all together, complete with Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt." The results are pretty great — and even add an extra layer of sorrow to Logan by reminding us what Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Prof. X (Patrick Stewart) have lost. 


"This is Hugh Jackman's last appearance as Logan, so it felt like a fitting tribute," Ibrahim explained on YouTube.



Logan hits theaters March 3, 2017.

It is not as compelling as the real LOGAN trailer -- there is angst and sorrow with the last part of the story of Wolverine and Prof X! It appeals to the heart of every fan! It has even made people cry!

But this shows how much the LOGAN trailer has affected people...that they wish to recreate the same feeling!

'Logan': Hugh Jackman Is Battered, Bruised (But Still Ripped) as Wolverine in New Photo

Even with a diminished healing factor, he still has the muscle.


There's still plenty to see of Logan.
A week after the first trailer debuted, Logan director James Mangold is keeping the reveals coming, this time showing more from a scene teased in the trailer. A new photo shows a shirtless Logan (Hugh Jackman), bloodied and scarred, standing in front of a mirror. He's also ripped (this is a Wolverine movie, after all).

The scars and wounds (which look like they come from bullet holes) are a new twist on the character, whose healing factor isn't what it's used to. The film takes place in a future, where Logan's powers are diminished and Prof. X (Patrick Stewart) is a shell of his former self.

Jackman's physical transformations for the role over the years is the stuff of legend, and even playing an aged version of the character didn't allow the actor to skip the gym. Logan also stars Boyd Holbrook as the villain Donald Pierce and Dafne Keen as the young girl Laura (also known as X-23 in the comics).

Logan hits theaters March 3, 2017. 

It is not so much the form that Hugh has kept over the years, it is the dedication and professionalism towards his craft which is the more admirable aspect of Hugh Jackman's tenure as Wolverine!

What are your favorite shots from the trailer?



Mine are quite a few :


*The scene before the mirror, probably showing Logan at his most vulnerable, physically and emotionally.

*The scene where Logan, with an uneven gait, carries the frail Prof X to his bed, highlighting the bond between the two.

*The scene in the car showing Logan sleeping on Laura's lap, possibly the start of mutual trust between Logan and his blood ward.

*The scene where Logan is driving the car fast (and looking to both left and right), possibly hinting at one of the most exciting action scenes in the movie.

*Logan in his iconic leap and stabbing motion, reminiscent of the fighting Wolverine at his best!

I learned something new today by just watching a video reaction to the LOGAN trailer - a phrase/word that always sounded exotic to me, but never really knew its meaning and how it is used.

was applied to film in the 1950s by the French critics writing at Cahiers du Cinéma (Notebooks on Cinema). They borrowed it from French theater, where
it essentially referred to everything that appears on the stage (it literally
means “putting in the scene”).The thinking was that a film’s mise-en-scène consisted of everything
that the camera sees: the setting, the lighting, the actors, their performances
(including blocking), costumes, makeup, props. It also referred to how those
elements were arranged within the frame—in other words, it was synonymous with
the shot’s composition...

“Everything—literally everything—in the
filmed image is described by the term mise-en-scene:
it’s the expressive totality of what you see in a single film image.
